you feel sleepy, irritated and terrible the next day. can not concentrate on any work, keep yawning, and you head is heavy. it is very essential that you have atleast a 5to 6 hours sleep at night. you can not sleep so well during the day like in night. if one sleeps well at night, he gets up fresh, in a good mood, an with a lot of enthusiasm to carry on his day's routine. for sleeping well through the night, eat your dinner about 1or 2 hours prior to bed, have a hot cup of milk , if possible, saffron-flavoured, do not watch t.v. till last minute, read a light bookif you like, pray God for a wonderful day and for peace of mind, before that, kiss everybody goodnight, avoid arguments, have a proper bedding and especially a pillow to suit your need, drink a little water, go to bathroom and relieve yourself, avoid sleeping pills unless advised, take your regular medicines if any, half-an -hour before, and just sleep. don't think in advance, oh, iam not going to get sleep. stop worrying atleast before sleep about all your problems, and your nights will be peaceful.

I have researched this a bit because I often don't go to sleep until 5:00 AM. Besides the side-effects that we all know (eg. crankiness and exhaustion and slower functions) some effects are: memory loss, hallucinations (Though it takes several days without sleep for this to occur), impairs brain function, decreases ability to fight infections and most seriously, increases chances of cancer by up to 30%.
