what's the best way to massage them?

my girlfriend's feet are aching, and both her arches and calves are cramping. she's been wearing high heels too much (and she's only 18).

i think she also has a shortened achilles tendon because she tends to tiptoe a lot on bare feet.

i've convinced her to slowly put off the high heels so she's gradually decreasing the heel height. but b/c of her shortened tendon, she can't go to flats at once. she's trying though!

so how can i massage her feet to make them feel better and hopefully get her tendons to stretch a bit too? thanks!

and thanks to you all who answered my last question about what she should do. you all helped me convince her to stop with the high heels! and one of you also got me started on this question.

I am only speaking from personal experience here, but after a long day in heels, my feet feel best when my husband massages the arches and gently stretchs my tendons and muscles. The stretching comes when he has me pull my toes back while he is providing some resistance by pushing against them, as well as when I push my toes against his hand.

The best thing to do is ask her what feels nice, because I'm sure everyone's different. Hopefully this gave you some ideas of where to start though.

I've heard that walking in sand is very therapeutic to go for a walk on the beach. (Could be very romantic as well) Wearing high heals is not a good thing over a long period of time. I've seen an exercise that could be done after taking off your high heels. You stand barefoot, feet together, on a book that is about 2" high. Raise and lower yourself so that your heel is below the level of the rest of your foot. This is supposed to stretch the tendon. It's supposed to slim ankles as well.

I think she should try to press her feet down once in a while just to regulate the growth in the feet. At 21, or as you said 3 years before, her feet might've been growing to fit this new style. It;s a bit dangerous for her though, as it has been known for people who like to wear very high heels very often, to have issues with their kidney. Sounds unlikely but it does have an effect if you look at the structure of the human body. I think she should have it checked, and maybe try to encourage her feet to flatten up sometimes. Perhaps gradually, with the height of her heels. From 4 inches, perhaps gradually decrease the size to get her feet used to flats once again. Just for health's sake

her feet won't really be right until her calves are unbunched & allowed to lengthen. the cramps in her feet are from the spasms in the calves as well.
put hot packs or hot water bottle on her calves, achilles tendon & feet to increase blood into the spasms which softens them. then massage them after 30 minutes of heat.
anything that is inflammed will respond better to a cold source.
use lotion, oil or especially, muscle linaments. if you can get some Chinese linaments, they are especially good. Icy Hot is good for an American product.

If you get a foot rub with pepermint oil in it, it feels really good. Take a long time and go slow and not rough. She will appreciate you for it.
