Well, many of the airline alliances offer around-the-world trips. As a matter of fact, I just booked a business trip: LA to London to Taipei to Tokyo to LA. Adding additional destinations does not add significantly to the price. These itineraries cost around $4000 to $5000 USD. For some reason, the alliance I am using for this trip, One World, had business class seats available for $5000, only about $1,000 higher than coach. Go figure.
That will give you an idea of airfare price. For pricing info on lodging, food, and tours, it will depend greatly on which countries and cities you want to visit. Like another answerer mentioned, a cruise may be the best option. While you wont have the opportunity to experience each destination in depth, a cruise will be the most cost effective and convenient option. It's probably the best way to "sample" various destinations and determine which ones to revisit at length in the future.
Hope this is helpful!

Depends also when you go, which route you take etc. You should not have to pay more than $4000 for the aroudn the world ticket with almost unlimited stops. If you want to take a "nice trip" then count on another $100 per day. If you can handle the buses/hostels/eating in supermarkets then the price can go down significantly probably down to $30 per day or so ... Depends how long you want to stay ...

I suggest that if you are looking to travel around the world, then why not take a world cruise, you get to see many fabulous ports and this will be cheaper because your food/drinks are included, no worries about reservations for various hotels all that is taken care for you. Check Vacationstogo.com
