They have sparys that you can spray onto your furniture that you can usually get at your local PetSmart. Or, if your cat isn't to old, you can use a just regular water spray bottle and spray the cat every time he/she goes up and starts to scratch the furniture.

That's a weird one, but try buying some catnip spray, and spray it on your furniture. But be warned that once your cat learns this behaviour, it'll not be easy to undo if you should decide not to apply this behaviour on future furniture or stuff around the house.

Get a tin of catnip and toss it on the furniture you'd like scratched, but be forewarned it may get scratched to ribbons. My babies said they would be very happy to oblidge! Hmmm, could you possibly be going through a bad divorce????
