Read lots of books first. I have seen too many kids on drugs too soon.
I have ADHD and I don't take anything for it...I had to change what I ate,(absolutely no sugar and nothing 'white' rice, potatoes, etc.) and get a lot more exercise.

luv Ava

It seems very unlikely but, there have been a few cases when they were severe. I am a teacher and most of the times, teachers and parents wait until first or second grade to have the child tested unless the behaviors are seriously getting in the way of the child's self esteem or learning.
Many people feel that some physicians jump the gun so to speak and put a lot of children on medications that don't need it. There are alternative methods. That is why second opinions from physicians are very helpful and the parent needs to read up on ADHD, medications, and treatments. Start searching the web talk with a couple of doctors, etc. Then you will be more informed and feel more at ease.

oh....gods....
okay heres my objective answer (apart from thinking that all diagnosing adhd does is medicate normally healthy, active children)
if your child isn't up to where he or she should be, ie forming longer sentences and the such (check with your local health department or pedeotrician to know exactly where he or she should be) it's possible he or she might have a mild-severe case of autism, which is what we found out a friend of mine's son has.
but in all reality, a three year old should be running around, being sporatic, playful, not much of an attention span, because they're three. now if the child is five and still doing it, there could be a problem. again, talk to your family doctor to find out for sure. good luck

Yes, though I think too often adults blame ADHD for normal kid behaviors, then the kid ends up getting medicated without really needing it and that can be very bad for the child. I'd encourage anyone with questions about whether their child has ADHD to wait to see if the kid does OK in school without meds before putting the child on them.

If the Federal government's plan goes through, EVERY child will be diagnosed with a "mental illness." Parents who resist risk their children being taken away.

"New Freedom Commission on Mental Health," which in 2003 recommended to the federal government that all 52 American schoolchildren be screened "for mental illness."

Don't tell me ... .he's a boy, yes?

Be very careful allowing people to label your children. Many times I have seen little boys labelled as "ADD" or "ADHD" for nothing more than being little boys. And no matter what happens, I do NOT recommend that you allow anyone to administer Ritilin under ANY circumstances!

They could be, by a doctor who doesn't care about his patients, and parents to stupid to see that ADHD is a made up syndrome that parents use to explain why then are too lazy to keep up with their kids.

I would get a second opinion. I have a 3 year old and 4 year old, and that seems kinda young to me. All kids are hyper.

No, but if a child seems "absent" and not listening and hyper beyond a normal child of that age check his/her hearing. Its the hardest of the sences to recognize isn't working properly...and when you're three its not like you can tell someone you can't hear well.

If it were my child, I would change his diet to more veggies to calm him down before I would ever consider meds.

Not to mention, kids these days are bored and don't get enough exercise (believe it or not) try to structure more things like walks with family members and mental challenges, first.
