i asked my israeli supervisor and he said that kosher pickles are just a recipe that was created by a Jew so they just started calling them kosher but it really has nothing to do with rabbis etc.

Kashrut or "to be fit" is what being Kosher is all about. Two of the signs you see are "Parve" or "Pareve", but they are not the only ones. There are 4 other signs that can be printed on a label to show that a product is Kosher. The Orthodox Union is the strictest version of Kosher as it descends directly from the church of the Orthodox Jewish religion. The others are less formal in their handling of Kosher laws.
1. Orthodox Union
2. OK Kosher Certification
3. Star-K Kosher
4. Kof-K Kosher Supervision
To see the symbols for each go to the website below. Clicking on the symbols will take you directly to each of the above groups websites to learn more about them.
If you pay more attention in your grocery store you will find hundreds of these little symbols on products. Just because the dill pickles say Kosher in big letters, don't assume that they are the only things that are.
In scanning my kitchen quickly I found, pasta and sauce, ketchup(Heinz), mustard(Grey Poupon), mayo(Helmann's & Miracle Whip), salsa (Target & Old Dutch), jam(Whole Foods), cereal bars(Nature's Valley, and mixed nuts(Planters). So, what do you think you will find on your next scavenger hunt through the local grocery store?
Happy hunting!

Probably because some product in its preparation keeps it from being Kosher . Either that or Kosher pickles are more popular than other kosher items with non-Jewish people and are easier to find in stores. If you want to find Kosher items try looking for a grocery store that has at least a selection of Jewish foods or a Jewish deli. Stores cater to thier customers needs. So they stock what they think they will buy.

there are lots of kosher items but they aren't labeled that way - they have an identifying mark on the label that kosher keeping people recognize

Just because it says it's kosher doesn't mean it's KOSHER. It's just a term.

There is. Look for the word "PAREVE" on the food in your cupboard, that means it's kosher.

Grocery Stores only carry what sells...not all items of a brand sell...ask your grocery store manager to order them for you..they will do it.
