I was just given a 10 week old puppy,Im a new parent so i dont know much about puppies. I took her in the vet for her shots and a cupple of weeks later i found out that she had fleas. She's a long Hair bread, and her hair is falling dramatically. I took her the vet, and they gave her Advantage (flea control Medication) Since we keep her in a cage while we are work, she gets really dirty, and so i just wanted to know how long after applying the medication can, i shower her? and what can i do so her hair wont fall off anymore. It really seams to me, like that medicine is not really doing nothing for the fleas. she keeps scratching and bitting on her self. Im afraind she might go bold. I could already see some bold spots. Please Help....!

The big problem may not be the fleas but that she is in a crate all day long and needs to poop and pee and gets it all over her skin, which is already broken from the flea bites. This can cause skin infection.

You need to treat the fleas and give the puppy a way to relieve herself while you are gone to work. Don't make her pee in the crate! Crate training will never work if you do it that way!

Flea Baths are crammed with too a lot chemical compounds for a puppy do no longer DO IT! A puppy is small, it is fur is skinny, basically fill the tub or sink and carry the canines in with purely it is head protruding.. extraordinarily quickly you will see some drowning fleas scamper to the top for secure practices, you could then comb them off with a flea comb, or notwithstanding. Use a delicate dishsoap, or toddler shampoo, you would be waiting to work out all the fleas as quickly as the puppy is moist, basically %. em off, this might grant loads of alleviation to your puppy, then once you could, pass to a vet and get a flea medical care suitable for domestic canines. good success!

I never had a flea problem after i did this. At the health food store you can purchase "essence of peppermint". Put a FEW DROPS in the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together and pet the puppy's back from head to tail. Repeat and do the stomach. Repeat for each side, the legs, and the tail.
The dog may lick itself but, it is not toxic and it won't hurt the dog. you have used so little it will not hurt the dog and he smells good too.
His hair should grow back when the fleas are gone, he is probably allergic to them.
It may seem costly when you buy it but it lasts a long time because you don't use much.

Your going to need your vet's help to get the internal itch gone. Once they start it's hard to stop. Advantage will wash off with a bath. You can use K9 advantix or Frontline- both more water proof than advantage, but you should always bathe first, then apply the product. You can kick it up to the next size if she has a lot of fur as the product 'climbs' the hair. Use an Aloe & oatmeal based shampoo to help soothe her skin. Make sure if you do bathe her a couple times in two weeks to reapply the product or your letting to much time go in between.

I have a long hair dog that is allergic to fleas. His hair falls out and he scratches him self to bleed. I use Advantage on him and he is fine now. I don't use it in the winter and if I don't treat him quickly enough in the summer he has that reaction. It usually takes a few months for his skin to heal and all his hair to grow back. The Advantage should completely elliminate fleas and pupae with in a day or two. You can wash your dog and the advantage will still be effective. Don't worry too much. Alot of dogs are allergic to fleas. She will be fine in a few months. You are a good Mommy! Good luck with your new puppy.

Why don't you try spraying her with vinegar? Put some in a spray water bottle with a little water and spray the puppy outside and let her soak for a little and then bathe her. As you're bathing her the dead fleas should wash off. She might still scratch for awhile because she has bite marks, that should go away in a couple of day. Hope I could help.

Might not be fleas. She could have mites under her skin. I would take her back to vet.
