I was 10. GIrls are getting their periods earlier these days, so it could happen soon, or not for some years. It tends to be genetic however. WHen she starts getting breasts, or hair on her legs and underarms, IE other signs of puberty, it'll be coming soon. But I wouldn't worry, it can be an exciting experience for a young woman, especially if her mother is supportive! I would only worry if she reaches high school and hasn't gotten her period or shown any signs of puberty, then you may want to talk to a doctor. But since it can start anytime now, I'd start to talk to her about it and get here prepared for when it does come. Good luck!

Well, you should talk to her about it now. Make sure she knows at least the basics. how to use a pad, that she isn't dying, it happens to all girls. You certainly don't want it to happen to her at an early age whle she is ill prepared and away from home and have her think she is bleeding to death. Believe me, I have seen it happen.
There are books you can get at the library to help out. Talk to her, let her read about it, then ask if she has any questions.

I know of several girls who were 9 ( cousins, friends)But at the same time, I know of some other girls who were well into their teens (16 or 17) before they started their periods.
It just depends on the girl. And just because you were a certain age doesn't mean she will be the same age. I was 10, my daughter was 12.

Just make sure she knows about it and that she can talk to you or anyone else she trusts about it and things will be fine.
Good Luck!

Well, first of all, don't worry about it at all!! It is a natural thing after all........Believe me, kids get all that kind of education in school these days, and also, her little girlfriends are aware as well. Just be open minded to her and maybe have any supplies she will need in the future on hand. If she has a question, I am sure she will either ask you or a friend. Don't worry about it!!! Everything will really be just fine! Good Luck Honey! - to both of ya- Lauren.......

A girl can get her period at age 9. My daughter is 10 and I told her when she turned 9 what she can expect when she gets her period. Kids today are maturing faster and reaching puberty earlier. I felt it was better to inform her that way she wouldn't be caught off guard. She hasn't gotten her period yet but when she does she will be prepared.

I think the earliest I have known a girl to get their period is around 5th grade. You shouldn't worry about it though. I would go talk to her about it so when it does happen, she will come to you for help or questions. It's really not a big deal though. If you are really worried about it, have her carry a pad around in her backpack or purse. If you don't like that idea, then make her keep extra change with her in case she starts when your not around.. she can go pull something out of the vending machine in the bathroom. Hope I have helped.

I'm a nurse in a gynecologist's office. I've seen girls come in as young as 8 with their periods, but I've seen some as old as 18 that still haven't started. It depends on when your daughters body decides to mature. I'm not sure if this helps, hope so

I got mine at 9, but I have a hormone imbalance, I wouldn't worry about it, but her friends will start talking about it soon, so you should sit her down and tell her the facts (little girls make up crazy stories, she needs to know the truth)

Why worry? Everyone is different. My mom got her when she turned 13, my sis got hers when she turned 13 and I got mine when I turned 10!
