Every 28 days, if you are not pregnant, the uterus sheds it's lining and we bleed. It can cause cramps and moodiness because of the change in hormone levels. It's like having a nosebleed - you can't control the blood leaking out like you can with your urine - so we wear pads to absorb the blood, or tampons which absorb it before it comes out. It's a perfectly normal process but it is messy and uncomfortable. When women are about 50, they have generally stopped having their period: this is called Menopause and means the woman is no longer able to have babies.

Along with the previous message, an unfertalized egg is released into the uterus. After approx. 28 days, if an egg is still unfertalized, it is released out of the vagina through menstration.
