I asked at the groomers the other day and in fact the owner says that they do it quite a lot in the summer, as we are in Florida.

She said she had done both long haired and medium haired cats and they come back as needed and have done this for 3 years now with the same kitties.

If it is Kitties first time.. kitty may not be too happy at first but he/she will get used to it.. just support the kitty and tell it that it is still pretty and give it extra love.

Smile. Friends of mine had to shave their longhaired kitty because her coat was a tangled mess. She howled all the way through the process. The other cat who lived in the house was watching, and when the job was finally done this other cat eyed my fiancee, who did the shaving, arched her little back and hissed at him. It was cute.

When she recovered a bit, the shaved cat seemed a lot happier, so go for it.

My brother shaved his long haired cat, but not to the skin just enough to layer it. But it would depend on how willing your cat is to be shaved by an electric razor. Some cats get scared by the noise.

No, you shouldn't do that. What you should do is give your cat nice cool water and put ice cubes in it ever so often. Also, if you have a fan you can turn the fan on for them. Cats also shed to cool themselves down, but you don't really have to be too concerned with this case.

Turn on the AC, really they don't need to be shaved. Give them cold water even with ice cubes in it. Cats have delicate skin and sunburn very easily.

My cousin has persian cats and she shaves them every summer. She has a "cat house" and she shaves cats quite a bit so she is used to getting bit by them...LOL

Get a cat brush, and brush their fur regularly. A lot of the loose fur that they shed in warmer weather will pull off, and help keep them cool.

Don't shave them. Sunburn can kill them.

Yes - call any grooming salon and see if they have a cat groomer.

DO NOT SHAVE IT YOURSELF! A cats skin is extremely thin - and can nick easily!! Leave it to a professional!

Don't shave them bald, they could get a sunburn. But you can trim their hair shorter. Take them to a vet or grooming place to do it, it would be worth the $$ than to do it yourself.

Yes but be careful not to touch the whiskers, trimming them of taking some off will cause them to feel off balance and hurt themselves when jumping or manouvering quickly.
