Whether it's police, fire, or EMS, no one seems to pull over for emergency vehicles anymore. All anyone ever does (if they do anything at all) is freeze in the middle of the road!

RED LIGHT=PULL TO THE RIGHT

Can someone answer this one for me?

Perhaps they can't tell which direction the emergency vehicle is comming from? It is best to stop than to be a moving variable.

I always pull to the right to make way for the emergency vehicles, and I will also use the left lane to make more room for police vehicles on the shoulder while they are ticketing someone. I do this also for cars on the shoulder who have hazzard lights on.

I also will flash my brights to alert semi tractor trucks that their haul clears my front bumper if they are signaling to pass. and flash again if they are trying to merge into traffic. this really helps them take the guess work out of clearing the bumper.

Because it is not always safe to just pull over. Additionally, the speeding emergency vehicle really only needs 1 lane; if there is a lane free and the emergency vehicle is traveling down this lane, why should I pull over? Am I to believe that all of a sudden the emergency vehicle will need an extra lane? Of course if there is an intersection, anyone in and around the intersection should pull off to their right. There have been many horrible accidents caused by rushing EMT's, FireEngines and Police cars that were no one elses faut but their own. Sometimes there are rules that are WRONG but no one challenges them. By the same token, there are people whom don't use their heads in diffferente situations. I don't want to be in the right lane and have a scared 17 year old driver in the left lane pull right into my lane because he sees an EMT 1/2 mile behind him; I want that teen to use his head and pull over when it is safe.

You shouldn't always pull to the right. simply continue making a direct path for emergency vehicles. If everyone is going left because an ambulance needs to take a right, then follow...use your rear view mirror and eyes, ears, and brain to know what is going on when you are behind the wheel. Also be cautious not to cause more of an obstacle by crashing into others trying or not trying to get out of the way.

You know, I come across this problem as well. I think it's that they don't really care. They're not the one in the ambulance. They're not the one whose house is on fire. They're not the one being robbed. They just care about getting where they want to go without wasting the 30 sec. it takes to be considerate of others. People are selfish. Either that or they're too stupid to know what to do.

They may freeze up because they are scared and panicked and don't know what to do. Some people are just selfish and believe that they will get there when they get there. I think its rude that people don't pull over. It's wrong and could potentially kill someone.

Most of them are either inexperienced, panicky, elderly, or have their attention focused on the radio, cd player, or cell phone. The rest are either stoned or trying to hide their guns and dope. One of the hardest things an emergency response worker has to do is not become emotionally involved in the rush to respond quickly. You've got to force yourself to relax and not let the traffic cause you to do something stupid.

I want to know why the idiots around here don't let those of us who do pull over back on the road!

Because it is not their emergency. people are basically selfish...except those who DO pull over.

They have not been ticketed for it yet. No enforcement of the law.

People that do this are just stupid. I think they think they are better than everyone or invisible!
