Even though your machine was factory installed, by law they had to provide you with the installer DVD. You can reinstall using the DVD, you can not install Windows from an online site.

If your computer did not comed with seperate media for installing the OS, then it is on a partition on the harddrive. The companies do not have to give you hard copies as long as it is on the restore partition. It is not a law.

You usually have an option to purchase a hard copy for 10.00, if you didn't them you don't get one.

You can however, if you have the original key on the sticker, borrow someone elses xp cd that is the same version, and do an install using your numbers. That will put xp back on. If you are just having problems, you can do a repair install and fix windows without losing your data.'

You cannot however install xp from online.

Hope this has helped straighten out the other answers you got

I never heard of that before, online window reinstalling is probably impossible, but if you did buy your comp, it had to come with the system restore disk , what it does is, deletes everything off your hard drive, and leaves you with the same windows, the reason they don't give off windows xp disks, is that it costs like $160 and people would redistribute it and they would lose business, so if you lost the cd, only thing you are left to do is either really clean your computer delete everything your self, and if your windows is screwed up now, the only thing you left to do is , download a pirate copy of windows with cd key, put it on disk, and install the windows again..

Your computer should have been bought with the CDs included. HTe manufacturer is obliged to give you the cds and/or a microsoft registration code for xp.
IF they did not give you these things then not only have they illegally used the program, but you can legally go and ask them for the cd which they must give you for your keeping (do not accept a copy, it must be the original), you do not have to pay for it since you have aleady paid for the computer which included xp.

Many companies install windows and then forget to hand over the cd with the computer, this is illegal as it infringes on copyright.

I do not believe that you can, but your can get in contact with the manufacturer of your computer, and see if they will send you the CD for the OS (operating system, i.e. XP) You will have to unstall the previous version of windows, so you will have to have a CD. It would be best to get it from the manufacturer, because they might give you the CD free.
