122 at 5'6" is NOT overweight. I weighted 125 in college and thought I was huge. I was a cheerleader too. I tried every kind of diet including starvation. I once ate carrots and coffee until I turned orange and my hair fell out. The result is that I messed up my metabolism. My body never knew if I was living through a famine or feast. It forgot how to process calories correctly and over time, no matter how little I ate, I gained weight. At my lowest point (or maybe I should say highest point) I weighed 350 pounds. I had diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and was in constant pain, physical and emotional.

It's taken surgery and sacrifice to lose down to what I consider a normal weight. I'll never be normal. I've had some surgery to remove loose skin, but everything can't be repaired.

Don't let this happen to you. Eat a normal amount of food, exercise and let your body decide what you should weigh. I bet 122 is a lovely weight for you. Don't go on extreme diets or you could end up like me.

Take care.

First of all, I wouldn't say you are overweight at all. At 5'6, 122 lbs. is quite reasonable, but only you know at what weight you feel your best, and since you have a definate number that you "must" make for cheerleading, I guess you would need to lose a few pounds based on that. Since I only have a little information about your specific situation, it is hard to tell you exactly what type of program would be best suited for you.

Normally, it would be wise to go to your gym or any reputable gym in your area and perhaps find a personal trainer. If that is not feasible, here are a few basics that may help you. Gererally, the best way to shed unwanted pounds would be to first look at your diet and try to eliminate things like simple sugars (soda pop, candy, other treats) and those items that are high in saturated fats (fried foods, snack foods, etc.). That would be a good start since you said that most of the extra weight you gained came on quickly after "binge" eating.

After that, make an attempt to try and eat smaller meals more often throughout the day so that you are never at the point where you are starving and feel a need to binge on whatever food is available. Try good proteins like eggs, fish, lean beef, etc. and good carbohydrates like vegetables, oatmeal, etc. Smart nutrition is the best way to control your weight, followed by smart exercise. I would say to try and make it to the gym (or even exercise at home if you can) at least 3 days a week doing some type of cardiovascular exercise for at least 20-30 minutes. This can be on a stationary bike, treadmill, jogging, or even walking around the block at a good pace to start. Start out slowly for the first week or two, and keep an eye on the scale to see if you are making progress. You can gradually increase your exercise as you go, making sure that you don't try to do too much too fast.

The last thing I would suggest is that you start on an exercise program with weights. This will help you build some muscle and tone your body. The more muscle you develop, the better your body will burn fat, and obviously the better you will look and feel. If you have any health issues that might prevent you from doing certain exercise or weight training, it is always best to get a checkup and let your doctor know you want to start training and exercising. You seem young (based on the fact you are a cheerleader, I'm assuming high school age) so there may be no health issues at all, but again, I do not know your specific situation well enough, so it's better to be safe than sorry. :)

Good luck to you. Try to develop a good diet, and begin exercising. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated, and I think you will be able to take control of your weight. Do not try to starve yourself, as that is a very unhealthy way to lose weight and may lead to other health problems. I hope this helps you a bit. Take good care, and best of luck to you with your cheerleading!

I'm a cheerleader too. if you wanted to loose that weight, then start by eating salads and drinking water. forget the fatty foods. it would also help if you exercised daily. those pounds will be shed in no time. that's how i keep my weight from gaining.

122 is normal for a girl that's your age (I'd assume about 16, maybe even younger) If they say you're heavy, I'd challeng that, no one says you have to look like a stick!

Put in your own accurate info and see when you stack up, but I think you're at a healthy wieght for your height.
