When I was small, my mom always used to tell me that eating carrots would help improve my vision. Is that real, or is it just something to get our little people to eat their veggies?

Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, which helps you see better, especially at night.

Is eating carrots really good for the eyes, or do moms just say that to inflict the vegetable on their kids? Well, one average-sized carrot contains twice the U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of vitamin A, which happens to be very good for your eyes. If you don’t like carrots, don’t worry — lots of yummy (and some not so yummy) foods contain vitamin A and other nutrients your eyes need.

I read this from somewhere: this myth(?) came from WW2 British RAF Propaganda... that the reason why the RAF was able to shoot down many Luftwaffe planes was because they have good eyesight, a result of eating carrots. But really British pilots had the advantage of radar and good air tactics and superior planes. And I believe the German's believed the carrot story, if I remember it right.

And YES they are good for the eyes.

Actually, my ophthalmologist told me that eating a serving of spinach each day significantly reduces the risk of age-related macular degeneration. So much for the carrots.
