I have an 11-month old German shepherd-bloodhound mix female puppy, and recently she's started to just stare at me and whine incessantly. For hours. Like she wants something, although she's been outside, been played with, ate, drank, gotten rawhide, etc. etc. I don't know what she wants! If she's not whining, she's just standing in front of me staring at me, and when I go to pet her, she backs up...it's really annoying! My other dog has never done anything like this, so I'm a little confused...any help?

When she's sleepy, she puts herself to bed (she's not crated) and she doesn't have to go to the bathroom. She won't play either, she just backs up and then stares at me...do bloodhounds really whine a lot? She's generally a very quiet dog.

She knows sit, heel, lay down, roll over, stay, etc. She's not stupid, and she obeys. She's done these things since she was three and a half months.

One of my dogs doesnt like to stay up past 9pm. Im a late night person. If I get up from the sofa to get a drink, go to the bathroom she goes to the bedroom door and waits. If I dont come to bed she comes back to the sofa a does a long whiney sigh. Sometimes it is so sad I have to go to bed and watch tv or get on my laptop like Im doing tonight. She may just want you to go to bed, so she can relax and not have to worry about you. It make for a long day protecting you. My dog is Huskey/German shepherd mix. watches everything I do and hears everything.

She may just be wanting you to place with her some more but take her to the vet in case it is something medical. The bloodhound in her is probably what's making her whine.

it sounds like she's not getting enough exercise or activity. consider taking her to training classes or find someplace where you can teach her how to do agility courses. both german shepherds and bloodhounds require a lot of activity as they are both very large dogs. they need a minimum of 2 hours of fast-past activity every day.

She may have to go to the bathroom or it might be that she's lonely and she might need another dog to be with. My dog usually whines when he wants to go on a walk to go to the bathroom. Also, sometimes it might be because a noise is bothering her. That happens to my dog a lot. My dog hates when a ball is bouncing around because its noise when it hits the floor (my dog actually bit me once because I did that).

It sounds like you have all of the "bases covered."

I agree, she wants something. All I can suggest is you take her to the vet...maybe he'll have some insight. Write down the times and activities (what's going on at the moment) when she is anxious, so he can help figure it out.

My dog does that when she's lonely. No matter how much I play with her she wants more attention, and when my husband is gone, she cries all the time. Does your dog have a playmate, toy, blanket, etc. that isn't there anymore that she's missing?

she doesnt know whats wrong eighter. try this, ack like you know whats wrong and teach her something. like "SIT" on command or "FETCH". WHEN A PUP LEARNS A COMMAND THAT SHOWS THEM HOW TO USE SELF CONTROL it creates a sense of calmness and you will see a happy pup. this will also create a better bond between the two of you. enjoy the journey. :)
