Could it be a health problem? My mom stepped on one the other day, she thought it was a thorn in the rug, and sure enough the poor thing was missing one. He's lost more since then, but only a few. Oh he is an older cat, if that helps.

You may occasionally find a claw lying around - - - this is just the shed
"sheath"....... I have picked up a few in my time. I am sure most get
sucked up by the vacuum cleaner. The claw grows out and separates........it
is kind of like a snake shedding it's skin.

Well, it depends. If it was the WHOLE entire claw, then you should be concerned. A cat loosing (or being declawed) is like you and I loosing our knuckles. Cats are useless w/out them.

But if the claw has been chipped (which is pretty normal), you don't have much to worry about, since it will grow back. It will not grow back if the whole entire claw, as a whole, came out.

Definitely see/ask your vet about this. Poor kitty!

I have honestly never heard of nor seen this before. The only thing i could think of is some kind of terrible infection in the foot, but thats just sounds farfetched to me you wouldve seen other symptoms by now. Id take it into the vet asap.

No, before I had mine declawed, they would shed the outer shell of the claws from time to time...if the cat has any other odd symptoms it's best to take her to the vet and get his advice.

I'd ask your vet about this. They need their claws for protection but I don't know what would be making him lose his claws.
