I feel evil for thinking that, but God only wants us to think about Him and do what he says. Wouldn't that qualify as being selfish? By the way, for those of you who like to blast Christians, I'm one too, so try to play nice.

I don't have a problem honoring Him and praising Him--especially after all that He's done--but I was just thinking...

If God is allowed to be jealous and still perfect, why can't He be righteously selfish?

Well even God says He is jealous. It's not wrong to think either. He does want us to love Him, honor Him, praise Him and rightly so since He is Almighty and The Creator. It's really only a bad thing if He wanted honor and love that belonged rightfully to someone else.

God is definitely not selfish! He wants all of your love and attention just like you would want the person who loves you to do. Think of it as a relationship...you want your boyfriend to be attentive to you and show you affection and in return you do nice things for him. God on the other hand has already done everything and i mean everything for us so we should gladly return love, honor, sacrifice to him. Doing what God says isn't much either...if you truly hear from God, he just wants you to give of yourself to someone or help someone or even tell someone about him and that's nothing. Look at what Jesus had to go through...we've got it easy.

Maybe you should do some soul searching to understand why you truly feel the way you do. Is it because someone is forcing you to do something that God has no called or asked you to do or do you really feel this way. What brought you to this conclusion?

Whatever it may be, just know that God has given you and me...all of us everything. What if he really did become selfish one day and took everything away from you that he's blessed you with, then what would you do?

Good question isnt it?

Gods only jealous, of the devil in people who believe satan and self-will,are the answer. Gods not a "Selfish" God. If your a true believer, you will see what a "Giving & Generous" God we have!! On the contrary, the bible even says: He will not only give us "Life", but "Life Abundantly" that does not sound like a "Selfish" God to me, AT ALL!!! I was filled- with the "Holy Spirit, many years ago, and once I became a "Born-Again" Christian, God poured-out, "Blessing upon Blessings" onto me and my childrens lives!! If God heard you consider Him that just tell Him how you feel, and He'll show you how much He's not that way, trust me,,but ask to be filled-with the holy spirit, before you pray in your own private space,, and explain to God everything you just told all of us!! And I bet cha' God will show you different!! God- Speed, to you, sister!! And may He just put His loving arms around you, and show you the real truth of who He really is, so that one day you can look back, and say, "Man was I wrong about my God!!" SMILE!!!

No, selfish is self-centered and focused only on self. God is not that at all. He is a loving God who wants to bless us. God sent Jesus for our salvation. That was the most unselfish act possible. When Abraham was getting ready to sacrifice Isaac, God stopped him. Why? Not because he is a selfish god, but because He is a merciful one.

The Wikipedia thesaurus lists inconsiderate, stingy and ungenerous as synonyms for selfish. God is absolutely NOT any of those things.

Don't feel evil, by the way. That is a lie from satan whose only job is to make you feel evil, terrible, sinful, etc. Your question is a reasonable one and you have learned one more beautiful thing about God's character.

Take that satan. (whump - opened a can of whip you know what on satan). Thud. The sound of satan hitting the ground. hehehehehehe We have the victory and satan is so foolish he hasn't got it figured out even though he has read the end of the Bible.

God has supposedly existed forever, which means that, for untold gazillions of centuries in the past, he existed without anyone to praise him. What changed? Why did he need to create humans, and then demand that they praise, worship, and adore him every second of the day? What, exactly, has he done that makes you think he deserves it? Why would an all-powerful God, who is pefect in every way, NEED this unending attention? If he needs it or wants it, then he is imperfect, since need and want both imply a lack of something. What could a perfect god lack?

BibleGod describes himself as a jealous God, and yes, he is also selfish, making demands of people that they devote their whole lives to him, alone. If you met a person who was this jealous, vain, and self-centered, would you want to be his friend?

I don't know if it is a sin to think this way. What I do know is that God is in no way selfish. He said if we seek him first he will give us the desires of our heart, I don't see any selfishness in these remarks. He is always their to forgive your sins, he opens your eyes each morning. No matter what your situation is there is someone with a worse situation. There are people who are risking and losing life and limb just to worship God. He is not selfish because he has promised a far better life for those who live and or die for him. Just trust and have faith, try it his way totally and you will realize his way will never steer you wrong and is far from selfish.

This may be simplifying this topic too much, but please bear with me just a second. God is the creator. He created you for a purpose. ..to have a relationship with you. He has tons of great things in store for your life and says to you"If you will do this" ie Love God with all your heart, and soul and mind... then He will give youxyz.
Now imagine you were God and were creating a world. You would set down all the things you wanted for and from your creation. Your creation has a free will and can choose to accept your proposal or reject it. God wants you to focus on Him so that He can communicate to you what He has for your life.

Selfish means He's doing stuff for His benefit.

Having us obey, Love, honor and worship Him, isn't for His benefit, it's for ours, He doesn't need to be worshipped, he can make the mountains and trees bow before his glory. But we were created for that purpose and we are incomplete without expressing to the fullest the Love Adoration and Joy that comes from having a relationship with the King.

The human heart has a place that needs something enthroned to worship. That space rightfully belongs to God. If we don't place God in that center seat, we place somthing else - our own selves, money, an idol... etc. Besides, how can you resist a God who empties Himself in love for you? Look at the cross - is that God being selfish? silly rabbit.
