hypothetically we could easily win a war with china with all the amazing explosives and nukes and other things that could go boom in our aresenal. But lets take that out of the picture. Nothing that explodes bigger than 25 square feet is "allowed" with our highly trained marines and tactics could we win the war with chinas massive army without the use of big bombs or flinging hundreds of thousands of men at them (d-day anyone?)

we would also have to worry about guerrilla warfare with local civilians and what not which could easily turn into another vietnam or Iraq war

The US would win. The Chinese historically use the wave attack which has never worked against the US defense. Our industrial might is well above theirs at the moment so we can mass produce the ammo and munition needed.

Our war planes have shown time and time again to be superior to the Mig which they use so we would have air superiority. Once we take the skies we will totally destroy their logistics and make it real hard to get ammo up to their front. This would make resisting our ground troops much harder since they won't be able to shoot back too well.

But this is all academic, I doubt we will ever go to war with China. In the big scheme of things it would be rather fruitless for both sides.

I think that you would also have to start by looking at the causes of the war. This would also determine what a possible war would be like. Would the war be caused by arguments over North Korea or Taiwan? Maybe the dispute might involve India. It might have to do with issues of energy, trade or terrorism. I don't what scenario is most likely, but I think that any war with China would have to involve some sort of multilateral action.

In my opinion, it's hard to imagine how a how an escalation to a serious conventional war between China and the United States would not involve nations of the Asia-Pacific region. This in turn would mean that the nations of Europe would have to become involved as well.

All I can say is 'Thank God this is a hypothetical' because I can see no way that any nation could gain from a war between China and the US.

Yes I do thing that we would win the war, however a war with China would be of such grand magnitude that many ROEs would be tossed out. High explosive munitions would be used, every resource short of nukes would be deployed. A key aspect is that the US military is highly mobile and highly capable, and the Chinese are a more static military that are limited by transportation needs. We have superior aircraft and vehicles, as well as a better satellite system to gather intelligence. Also, many Chinese are dissatisfied with their government so there is a strong possibility of a civil war in that country if war should erupt. The People's Liberation Army should not be underestimated and deserves respects due not only to its grand size, but a fair portion of the Chinese military is well trained and equipped. Also, the US would not go to war with China unless they were the aggressor in the conflict, which means that the Chinese would have to, for example, invade Taiwan or into the Middle East for oil resources, which would infuriate the world community. Therefore, we would not be alone in our war with them. The Chinese are a strong force, and the war would be a bloody one, but if I were to bet on the outcome of such a conflict my money would be on the US.

I would agree that if the war took place in china, I'd think NOBODY would win. They have a huge freaking army, and they are experts at guerilla warfare. Plus if they run out of soldiers, no problem for them, they can just draft more people.

IF you put it in terms of fighting on foreign soil, I would say that they could handle their own and take a good chunk of land and hold it for a while untill they started running out of people and equipment.

BUT if you put it in terms of technology, China wouldn't completely die off, they would just be severly crippled.(Although it would take a hell of a lot of bombs and a few nukes) I also think that china has nukes of their own too. Just not as many.

Interesting fact: (I heard that America's army is equivalent to the other 9 countries under us combined...WOW!)

Ever wonder who won the battle with Vietnam? Ever read about the war between Vietnam and China?

Ever read about the only batter where the country who started to attack set a date of entering the war publicly, and set a date of withdrawal publicly too?

That is China. The annihilate the entire elite force which terror the US Marines. Stop their military just outside the capital, and turn back home.

Main aim of war? To shame the Vietnam for been too proud. So, with that as reference, it is easy to extrapolate the consequent of war between US and China, if it is done without nuke.

I don't think we could win a hypothetical war with China under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. How 'bout that?

Here, there, nukes, no nukes. There's like a 3:1 ratio in population, and both countries would just keep throwing bodies into it until the other side was dead.

They have the numbers on us. Plain and simple.

The answer really would be a 2 optoinal scenario. If the Chinese were to invade the US mainland we would win. If the US attacked and invaded China we would be soundly defeated in just a smallarms, small bombs as you say. The Chinese have a population of 1 billion+. Never at an advantage attack their terroritory. Can you picture the Chinese just trying to get past South Central LA and controlling it.

I think we could win. In the origional Gulf War, we thought that would be a bloodly mess because the Iraqi military had a millian man army. Too bad that we were so technologically supiriour that we stomped them into the ground.

In a conventional military conflict, we are leaps ahead of china in terms of armored power. In a gurrilla conflict though we would most certainly lose.

You can't remove a strategy option from a war scenario. If China goes to war with the US, we need to use restraint, but also be ready to use whatever techniques we've got, if the situation calls for it. Forget numbers. If it's war, not ONE of our troops should have to give his life (and many many probably will) in another ground war, when we have the technology to expertly take out even a country the size of China.

We want no part of China anytime in the near future. They out number us and they are nuclear. Right now the way our boys are spread thin across the globe (thanks to our commander in chief) and enlistment at an all-time low, Even if we won the war, I doubt you would be able to tell once the dust settled... Don't get it twisted China would suffer without pause or mercy if they ever tried us.... but we are no where lose to capable of a "definite" win with that war machine....
