Because people need something to believe in and what better thing than an invisible being no one has ever seen. Therefore their beliefs will never be broken or challenged in any way because no one can prove or disprove an "afterlife".

And"holy books" with "holy words" were made by people. People aren't god. God doesn't talk to people. And god isn't real...

If God came down Himself and told people what to do, it might actually happen. But since He doesnt, people like to pick and choose what they beleive are His words. Basically, most people who say they believe in God, also see themeslves as following Him. They are trying, and I think that counts for something.

I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice.

He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.

But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."

Some people are going to be surprised on judgement day!

Matthew 7:22-24

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

You'll have to prove what "His Words" are. Your Bible isn't an accurate source for that particular information. Too many inconsistencies.
