There is a difference between being colorblind and not being able to see color at all. A read an excellent book written on this once. It said that cats can see in color but they see some colors better than others. They have a hard time seeing red or similar colors but can easily see blue and green. Dogs, on the other hand, find it easy to see red, yellow, and orange.

I have never understood how "they" have come to the conclusion that animals are colorblind. Cats, however, I'm almost sure can see in color -- because I've had a few who had FAVORITE colors. Give them a multiple choice of color of the same toy, and they would pick out the same color each time.
I have no scientific evidence for this. I just know what I've observed in raising my little monsters, and I absolutely have seen nothing to indicate that they can't see in color, and more indicators that they CAN!

Cats appear to see less saturation in colors than humans, meaning cats do not see colors as intensely or vibrantly. Purple, blue & green appear to be the strongest colors perceived by cats.
