elperro - the Pilgrims were not in the Indians' towns or using the Indians' schools or health care, and the Indians certainly weren't paying their way.
The United States has a right to say who can come. One reason immigration is limited is for assimilation. The reason it is such a big point now is that there has been a huge illegal influx of a single culture which is trying to establish itself as a segregated culture within our country. That number of people would never have been allowed and a lot of people are feeling that that number should not be legalized in part because of the very apparent assimilation problem.
Bush is pushing assimilation because he wants to make amnesty and broader immigration going forward something Americans can swallow.

Because this isn't 1492 or 1620 or 1880 to 1923 or something, and most of the Native Indians that I've seen are anti-immigration because they know what it's like!!
There was no law then, there is no law now, but there is as a host country a law to assimilate with us! Just like Mexico! And they didn't even assimilate with the Aztechs! And they conquered them, they are gone forever!
Which leaves you with no grounds!
Oh, and by the way, the Pilgrims DID assimilate with the Indians to an extent, the indians showed them how to farm certain crops and survive in the wilderness here, but it wasn't them who fought the indians, that was hundreds of years later! Didn't Pocohontas and and John Smith have a thing going?
Are you comparing 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens that we have to suspend our constitution and have our budget's bankrupt for perhaps a few dozen Pilgrims??
Goodness no!

The indians were already on the ropes from the french, spanish, and every other damned europian country with a boat. The indians had bows and arrows, the early immigrants were armed a tad more heavily. The indians, or native Americans, as they call themselves (not from India, Colombus was wrong) were unorganized and spread out, the europeans were an invading force, not sneaky little thieves like the illegals of today. I would love to see these shadowy scum try what the french or spanish (not MEXICANS, but people from Spain) and english did. We, America, will wipe them out like the tiny little people they are.

The immigrants of today do not have to assimilate, they have choices as do all people. The United States of America has immigration laws and we welcome immigrants from around the world that want to become a part of this great nation. We have many immigration programs for many people, such as temporary work visas, educational visas, and a host of others. We do have laws in place to welcome people.
If a person chooses to become an American citizen legally, there is a process in place which makes that possible, a part of that process is willfully giving up any citizenship or allegiance to any other country and willingly, before witnesses swearing allegiance to The United States of America. This is a part of the assimilation process which thousands each year gladly take part in. Why? Because they want to be a part of this great nation with all of the rights and priveleges of an American citizen.
If you do not want to "assimilate" or enter into MY country legally, that is your choice. Do not expect me to welcome you if you have absolutely NO allegiance to MY nation. Its all about choices, and the American people have chosen to rip the welcome mat out from under ANY Illegal tresspassers feet.
Watch your step there slick. Pilgrims had respect, thats why they were welcomed.
P.S., ENIGMA, to answer your question about how many "Natives" are still living. I am a Native American. thats one more than you thought huh?

It's a very simple answer...it's not the same day & time. People should know better now. How can you call someone a hypocrite, on one side of my family they once owned slaves, Does that mean I'm to be held accountable? I don't think so, because I would never own slaves even if it was legal. On the other side of my family I have Irish Immigrants and American Indian. does that mean you all owe me for the horrable things that were done to my ancesters? NO, THIS IS NOW! Society is differante.

Because when they are coming here "illegally" to take jobs away from Americans, to take our money that they don't pay taxes on and send billions each year back to Mexico even though they don't want to live there, to use our hospitals, schools, etc. that we have to pay taxes for and pay for their injuries, etc., when they come here to commit crime, etc. and fill up our prisons, when their children get breaks on tuition and Americans don't, and they can't speak our language, then they have to live the way it is here in America. The main thing is the illegal part. When the Pilgrims arrived, there were no such laws and they and our ancestors came here legally. They developed this country and made it what it is. So if immigrants want to live here then they need to do it LEGALLY and learn the language, pay their taxes and not be committing crimes. If they can't do that, then send them back!

Who says they didn't. If it weren't for the Native Americans, the Pilgrims would have perished. Why do you think the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving together with their Indian friends. It is once they mastered the art and greed set in did their friendship end. Read more history before making false statements.

Because illegals are breaking into a sovereign country, the USA, with laws, rules and regulations.
When the Spanish and other Europeans came to this continent, there was no unified country with immigration laws. You can't compare something that happened 500 years ago with the present day.

You need some history books. the Indians were a great help to the Pilgrims-they saved their lives.
War of greed came later.
Not the same at all.
