The shaving of the head is only practiced by a very small minority of the ultra-orthodox. More of them just trim their hair short and then cover it with a wig. The idea that a woman only exposes her hair to her own family has to do with the idea that hair is alluring to men. Though I'm not sure I understand how a man seeing some other woman's hair in the form of a wig is less alluring. That tradition is based more upon rabbinic understanding than what I would see within Scripture.
They can certainly talk to their own husband, but a woman isn't to go speak alone to a man she is not married to. (It really is not an issue in a place of business or out in public.) It is primarily a prohibition about being secluded with another man.
Her husband can touch her except when she is Nidah (her monthly cycle.) Yes, during that time she does not prepare food for the family, rather the family is required to prepare food for her. Nidah is a time of special holiness for her when she is set apart and must be served. She gets a vacation once a month from all household chores. Do a Google search on Nidah and you will find the rules about it.
Amazing that you would say that a woman being given a week free of burdens during which she must be served is "treating her like crap". She is in a holy state during this time, the only supposed downside to this is the lack of physical intimacy during the time she is set apart. Jim's quotation of the King James saying that she is "unclean" leaves something to be desired. Rather, she is more like the Holy of Holies of the Temple during this time -- a place that is too holy to intrude upon.

I'm not Jewish but I work in a very Orthodox Jewish establishment. I can confirm that Orthodox Jewish women wear wigs. The do not have to shave their heads. They just have to cover their hair. They can chose a hat, a scarf, or a wig.
As for the period thing: none of the Jewish women stop coming to work once a month so I'm going with a "no."

Okay...
1.) Only the ultra-orthodox women CHOOSE do to so. It is said in the bible that a woman must wear a covering over her head. Most women just put a peice of cloth over their head. But you could say the wig is the ultimate head covering.
2.) When Jewish women have their period all that happens is they obstain from sex for the duration of their period and an alloted time after that(the time alloted afterwards depends on what sect one belongs to). At the end of that time she immerses herself in a Mikvah, which is a ritual bath to cleanse the body. She can the have sex with her husband again. Otherwise she can live normally. Some may think that it is weird obstaining from sex for that long each month, but because of that the couple are able to grow a marriage that doesnt rely on sex and they can appreciate each other and value each other on other things. They become closer in the end.
I have found this theory to be true; because of my health problems my husband and I dont have sex a whole lot, but we have grown closer emotionally because of it.

What the Bible says about Menstruation
Leviticus 15:19-30
And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even. And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean. And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even. And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean. And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean. Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation. And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. But if she be cleansed of her issue, then she shall number to herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean. And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for her before the LORD for the issue of her uncleanness.
Leviticus 20:18
And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.
Ezekiel 18:5-6
But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right, and hath not ... come near to a menstruous woman.....
