Because the bible was written by so many man and there are so many versions of the bible they are afraid that if some one find something wrong about the bible and it can be proven, the christian faith will be thought of as a fake. Think of it there are the King James Version, the Mormon, the Catholics, the Protestant, the Lutheran, the Anglican Church version in England, and many more. I'm not ousting Christian, I myself is Catholic, but I prefer to be opened about what I believe and not be so offensive about some one else conviction. As a Christian you're supposed to love others and not hate other, the bible teaches you to love not to hate, but there are Christians out there that thinks if you don't believe in Christianity than you will go to hell.
Just remember, Jesus was Jewish, he is not Christian. The Christians was a follower of Jesus not a religion until emperor Constantine adapted the believe of one God in the Roman Empire.
In that tone also, I would have to say look at the priest that serve the sermon, if he insert his own convictions than he is not a good priest.
Other religions also like that, like the muslims or jews for example, if they have their priest or rabi telling them lies, what would the congregation believe in? So, for those who hates muslims, or jews or any other religions you should look at your priest and try to understands what he is trying to convey to you. And make your own decision, not what the priest's believes.

A lot of us weigh this out everyday of our lives. We want so much to do the right thing as He leads us but our flesh gets in the way. Ask most of us and you will find that this is the case.
Try a different angle...say you like a certain band and think they are the best ever and I came to you and said "they are not the best because their guitarist is not good." If you are passionate about the band, your comeback line might be nasty. It might not.
That's the way it is with faith. We want to share our beliefs so much (because we believe that we are supposed to do that according to the Great Commission) and we don't want to see anyone miss the chance to get to Heaven. That's all.
Hope that made some sense. If you aren't a Christian because someone messed up their witness to you, maybe we could find a different Christian to help clear things up? Then you could make an informed decision without all of the nastiness.
[Edit: to GeneralGoof...You said you are not a Christian but, rather, a Methodist. I've never heard anyone say it in that order before. As a Christian I choose to attend a Methodist church (worship styles, etc.) but I don't think of myself as a Methodist. Why do you say it that way (just curious, not flaming ya)?

Yes. Christianity is about getting in touch with our humanity. Legalism is using the Law to avoid our humanity. So in a broader context of Peter - wives should be subject to husbands as slaves have to accept beatings from their masters. Note the order as well - in that society slaves were more important than women. lol of course I would disagree with that as it is outdated. But is in not so bad. Legalists may us this statement to abuse women but that would be wrong. How I interpret that passage is that if a woman is married to an unbeliever she can stay married in the hope that he too will become a Christian. Good motherhood advice. In the broader context the antithetical verse 'believers should not be yoked to unbelievers' is relevant. This means if a husband is unfaithful to the marriage the woman can get a divorce (depending on your denomination). We don't believe in beating slaves and in slavery. However as Christians in today's society we take the message from Peter that we do not have to whine whenever we suffer but can turn the other cheek and accept it. It is important to remember that it was worse for Christians in the ancient society. Of course in modern society we should not use this interpretation to Legalistically turn a blind eye to injustice either. We need to think things through and follow Christ. Edit: For Michael. Acts 15:22-29 a council met in Jerusalem, before it was sacked in 70AD, and decided that if you were a Gentile you did not have to follow the Jewish Law. Nobody got rid of the old law it is still there for people to decide between doing what is right and wrong. If you like it is at that point that Christianity diverged from Judaism. My point is that we are trying to follow Christ, based on a good conscience, rather than mindlessly following the Jewish Law that does not apply to us anyway or following 'New Testament Law' which men have made up.

first of all I'm christian and I'm NOT judgemental (just a little bit). not all Christians are judgemental. so are and that's their own sin. instead of getting judgemental and defencive they should give proof that Christ really exists or listen to the question then answer it to the best of their ability. i have multi-cultured friends and i try to tell them more about my Savior, but i don't go "You have the worst religion in the world, you follow Jesus and god." That would be wrong. Also you shouldn't judge people, because you may not know them that well.

I used to be just like you, and I'm glad I questioned christianity, because now I'm a beleiver. The next time you have a question, or want to bring up a doubt if the person gets defensive try to find some one else, and remind them that it's their responsibilty as a christian to help you know Jesus, and being judgementle isn't the way to do it, I know people like the kept me awy from christ for years. HEY GENERAL GOOF, METHADIS IS CHRISTIAN,A CHRISTIAN IS ANY RELIGON THAT BELEIVES IN JESUS AS THE SON OF GOD!! AND YOURS (IF YOU ARE WHAT YOU SAY YOU ARE) DOES!!

Theists are convinced that if you don't believe what they believe, you will be going straight to whatever version of hell they believe in. Any time you ask them to prove their position with evidence, they tend to get huffy, or at least puzzled, about why you can't just accept their beliefs on blind faith. If it's good enough for them, it should be good enough for you. They are truly convinced that heaven and hell exist, and that everyone in the world should strive for one and avoid the other--and of course, that means obeying the rules according to their favored holy book, which tells you precisely how to do that...or so they think. In their eyes, doubting any aspect of what they call "God" is a great evil that will send you to hell. Thus, they get frustrated when you simply don't believe them or their holy book and start asking for proof and pointing out contradictions.

Christians do not judge. It isn't our mission here on earth. We simply want others to know the truth because we know everyone will meet their judgment day.
We have to be somewhat defensive because many are out to get us. Did you know that Christians are the most persecuted in the world? Additionally we are the only group not given free speech in the U.S. What's up with that?
finally we are not hostile, we are passionate.

It seems unlikely that the questioner had much actual association with Jehovah's Witnesses. In fact, Witnesses are quite comfortable using God's Word to give satisfying Scriptural answers to EVERY question.
Quite in contrast with so-called Christendom, Jehovah's Witnesses do NOT argue semantics and philosophy. Jehovah's Witnesses do NOT become judgmental, defensive, or hostile with those who disagree because Witnesses understand that such disagreement is not with the Witnesses, but with the bible, Jesus, and the Almighty:
(Luke 10:16) “He that listens to you listens to me too. And he that disregards you disregards me too. Moreover, he that disregards me disregards also him that sent me forth.”

They were told to think that and all around them see others judging each other and so are just another chip off the old block. I think the only way to build a strong religion is to question it at all times, but most people prefer blind faith.
