Imagine you are dumped in the middle of the ocean. In the first scenario, they just throw you out of the boat and leave without a word. In no more than a couple days, you'd be consumed with despair. You know no one is coming to save you.
You'd give up, and drown.
In the second scenario, they dump you in the ocean, but say, "If you can survive until Friday, there's a patrol boat that always passes by here".
Trust me: you are going to survive until Friday.
So, obviously giving the terrorists a date is like throwing them a lifeline. It would greatly aid in their recruiting. Imagine the sales pitch: "Hey, just lay low until next January and we'll have the whole place to ourselves".
Do you see why we can't give the terrorists a date to shoot for?

I don't know how you could put a date on it. We can't just leave with so many insurgents there. We may as well have left Sadam there. If the Iraqi's are not able to protect themselves yet we'll be leaving them to slaughter. And all the troops have done and the Iraqi people have done will have been for nothing.I would love to see our troops come home.

Would like to see American troops home today, but there are a lot of really bad factions, similar to the Taliban, out there trying to seize control of a very prosperous country.
Contrary to popular and retarded view, America is not trying to seize control, we could have it and rename the country America Jr. if we really wanted to. But we don't, we want to see Iraq thrive in an independant way free of genocide.

No! Absolutely Not!!
The Iraqi Government needs to be fully formed first......
With a Fully Functional Miltary, and enough Police to keep the civillians safe.........
Even then we will probably have a Base ther like we do in so many other parts of the world........
Also in case you havent noticed, Terror Attacks all over the world have decreased,The reason being, their all rushing to Iraq to fight us........
Personally I say better there than anywhere else.......
But thats just a personal opinion.........
Please remember that Terrorists have been murdering people all over the world for over 30yrs,Long before we went to Iraq.......
Better to deal with them now, because look where doing nothing got us..........

everyone wants the troops home, but setting a date and time is not the right way to go. Even if we where to set a date the troops stay would just probabbly be extended.

If we set a timetable then the Iraqis will know they need to take care of things themselves and be more likely to be willing to compromise to form a solution...but deep down I feel there will be an expansion of the current civil war that is taking place whether we leave tomorrow, next week, next year...the only difference is the longer the US is there the more US soldiers will die and possibly more Iraqis will die as well.

No, it is like calling ahead to say you will be breaking in a house at 2:30 am. They can just wait to overtake new army & police the day after we leave. You leave when a job is done, the military is not a 9-5 job.

Unfortunatly now that we are in there it is much harder to get out you would have lots of insurgents leading attacks on the soldiers and there would be lots of other typs of fighting and then we would be leaving all the civilians there that we were trying to help in the first place. I wish we could bring them home I have to many friends and family over there.

Maybe a set time range, but an exact date would probably be detrimental to the mission. I hate to agree with the current administraion but if you set an exact date, our enemies may just decide to wait us out.

WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR ANY U.S. PRESIDENT, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN GIVE THE FOLLOWING SPEECH?
My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of Iraq regime has been completed.
Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete.
This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq. This action will be complete within 30 days. It is now to begin the reckoning.
Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the names of countries which have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict. This list is short. The United Kingdom, Spain , Bulgaria, Australia, and Poland are some of the countries listed there.
The other list contains everyone not on the first list. Most of the world's nations are on that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later this evening.
Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war.
The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hellholes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption.
Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France.
In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have at home. On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the earth.
Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France, or maybe China.
I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France, Germany, and Russia. Thanks for all your help, comrades. We are retiring from NATO as well. Bon chance, mes amis.
I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many UN diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two unpaid parking tickets to sites where those vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed I don't care about whatever treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets. Pay those tickets tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers and limos be turned over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York.
A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List 2. Since we are likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing us off for a change.
Mexico is also on List 2. President Fox and his entire corrupt government really need an attitude adjustment. I will have a couple extra tank and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I am going to put em? Yep, border security.
Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty - starting now.
We are tired of the one-way highway. Immediately, we'll be drilling for oil in Alaska - which will take care of this country's oil needs for decades to come. If you're an environmentalist who opposes this decision, I refer you to List 2 above: pick a country and move there. They care.
It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens. Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying, "darn tootin."
Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in America. It is time to eliminate homelessness in America. To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thank you guys. We owe you and we won't forget. < /H2>
To the nations on List 2, a final thought: You might want to learn to speak Arabic.
God bless America.
