My friend does not have a gift registry. Are there specific wedding gift-giving traditions in the Indian culture that I should be aware of? If anything I can give money or a gift certificate, I know, but I'd like something more personal. thanks!

Please serious responses only, from people who have been to Indian weddings or are familiar with Indian culture. And it's not Native American, it is Indian i.e., from India.

or may i also suggest the you give them pottery, some native americans love pottery. the wedding is so spiritual. so i cant tell you what will be a perfect gift. maybe talk to your friends mom and ask her what you should give them. she will know.

Pair the money with a smaller gift that is personal (not a picture frame!). If you do give something completely off the wall make sure that it is returnable/exchangeable in case they don't like it since you are not giving the traditional gift and they may be counting on recieving cash. When my stepmom went to India she brought back some gorgeous hand-knotted rugs for cheap so maybe one of those and an envelope with a little cash will work.

In India, people usually gift home appliances, esp kitchen applianes in weddings. But thats no rule. I think a nice painting, vase or something artistic would do just fine. The most done to death gift here is a dinner set.

Money is the best that way they can get what they need or want. A lot of people don't register because they would rather have the money. You can't go wrong with that.
