Many people don't realize that we tried the amnesty thing in 1982(and several times before). Ronald Reagan signed a bill granting amnesty to illegal aliens with the understanding that any further aliens who entered illegally would be not granted this same priviledge. Now Bush and others want to do the same thing. When we will stop this. Is "This time we mean it !" enough ? It has to stop somewhere and now is better than later.
I'm glad you mentioned the fake ID angle. Faking a Social Security card would get you or I thrown in prison with a felony.
And language ? I work in a truckstop where aliens get a CDL license but speak no English. Nice to know that someone who knows little English can drive a 80,000 truck.

The answer is a simple NO! I am a legal immigrant in this country and had gone through trails and tribulations of getting my permanent residency. I had put in lot of time and effort into passing all my dental board exams. I currently have a successful practice. Why is it fair that an illegal immigrant crossing the border by foot should get a priority? As the name states, illegal means that you are a criminal and should be sent back to the country you originated from.In addition majority of the illegal immigrants do not speak English. I never knew that Spanish is second language in this great country!!

No. These illegal immigrants came here like sneaks and the first thing they did was to break some of our laws. There are legal processes for people to enter this counrty, but the illegals have chosen to violate the law and they should not be rewarded. They should be thrown out of the counrty and if they want to come back in they should do so legally, not like sneak thieves in the night. Any illegal immigrant caught three times should face mandatory jail time of 6 months or a year. While incarcerated, they should be forced to work (without pay) on public works projects to pay for the cost of their imprisonment.

As long as they are going to pay for the proper documentation and they can come clean in a background check using all aliases and they should HAVE TO hold down work and not need welfare to assist them. When applying for a green card a person must have proof of income including payment of taxes and a work history verified this should be the same for illegals. There is no reason why an illegal cant find a lawyer on a payment plan to help them become legal. Many have done it in the past

Yes, there are too many to realistically deport. I think all Americans should learn English so in an emergency, we can all communicate with each other. If they can prove they have been here for some period of time, say maybe 7 years, and learn and understand English then no penalty and no felons. Exceptions for those who are now parents of US citizens and have been here already for 3 years and again learn English. Those not qualifying under the above must have a sponsoring company, organization, or family to vouch for character and be investigated (to make sure they aren't a terrorist or other danger).

Every person should abide the law.. no matter where they are, and whether they are here illegally or legally. However it makes me sad.. for a person to trapped in a life with no opportunities.. there are some who take advantage.. but others are good people trying to make a living. I think that the U.S. should give a provision for these hardworking people to stay because of the way our country was founded... The pursuit of happiness should be given anybody who wants to be a legal alien. It is fear that keeps them from becoming "legal." Everybody has that right. Those illegal immigrants from Latin countries are not blame for their countries' proverty.. Just think about it the U.S. is just about the best country to live in.

They need to be taken back wherever they came from. They broke the law of the United States so they are crimials and need to be prosecuted.
I am a legal immigrant and waited my turn and paid all the fees to come here. Seeing people break the law like that makes me furious and now they are demanding their rights?
I am not planning on becoming a US citizen, but if there is a presidential candidate in 2008 who will deport all those people, I will get naturalized to become a citizen just so I can vote for that candidate!!!

This topic is volatile and I can see both sides very clearly; of course people want to live here, their countries are awful and people are starving, and why should America close the doors? On the other side, we are lucky to have this country and can't take care of every less fortunate person in the world, so maybe we should close the doors. However, I think it is rude of people to not attempt to learn English when they live here. That bothers me, I recently had a hard time getting a job because I do not speak Spanish and my area serves a lot of Mexicans!

O.K. Why did we not secure our borders after 911? We are talking 5 years later and its still not secure. The problem is it ain't gonna get secured because there were no terrorists here in the first place. Our Gov. was involved all along, they allowed it to happen. Didn't ya see the poll the today that said that the majority of foreign countries don't believe arabs brought down the twin towers. If anybody is illegal its our own government.

Illegal immigrants should NOT be allowed to stay in this country. If everyone else's anccesstors could become citizens and learn English, why can't all the new illegal aliens do the same?
