Characteristics of my baby?

Question

I am half black, half white with curly brown hair and brown eyes. I am also pretty light-skinned but still noticably black. My hubby is white with straight blonde hair and blue eyes. Is anyone else in a similar relationship with kids, and if so what are some common ways our baby might end up looking?

Curly Brown hair and blue eyes with brown skin? Straight Blonde hair and brown eyes with white skin?

I know everyone is different, and so are our genes, but I am really anxious about what our baby is going to look like, because I have heard of the hospital workers not giving black mothers white babies until tests have been done to ensure her motherhood.

I also want to add that I don't mean they won't give mothers the babies right after they deliver, but once the baby has been to the nursery, sometimes they think they put the wrong I.D. on. They did it to my mom when she had me (she's white). I know it's not a common thing these days, but you never know!

My boyfriend is 1/8 black. (like your baby will be) and he is etremely pale with hazel eyes and brown (almost blonde) curly hair. Most people can't tell he has black in him @ all.
We are having a baby too *I am two shades whiter than chalk) and I am hoping she has her daddy's curly hair and hopefully a little mocha in her skin... it's so pretty..

I'm not in this situation, and unfortunately I don't know anyone who is. I do know that brown hair/brown eyes are dominant genes, which means your baby will more than likely have dark eyes. Or so says science. My husband is brown/blue and I'm brown/hazel, and our two boys are blue-eyed blondies. :) I would also guess that your baby will more than likely have curly hair. Maybe not stereotypical "black" hair, but I'm betting it'll at least have some waviness to it. I also know (for a fact) that many (if not all) black babies look white(ish) when they're born (My grandmother was an obstetrics nurse, and said the black mothers used to freak out when they delivered these little white babies, lol.). It takes a day or so, but eventually the pigment develops in their skin.

Please don't take this the wrong way, because I don't mean to sound "strange" when I say it, but from the way you described your husband and yourself, I bet you guys are going to have a beautiful baby! I don't know that I've ever seen a mixed race baby (one white parent and one black) who I would consider "not cute". Congrats! Now I'm curious what your little one will look like!

I have a friend with parents like you and your hubby. She's kind of brown but she looks more tan than black with looser brown curls and brown eyes. Seeing as your baby may be born with this 'tanned' skin, I highly doubt that the hospital workers would have to prove your relation.

can you tell that way . Look at the couple who had one black and one white twin .My family is mixed and I know you don't have to have two children that look alike from the same parents .Genes can go far back / And it does not mean your kids will have curly hair . My sister has straight ..I have curly and where two different complexions from the same parents !!!!!!!!!11

I work labor and delivery, and I have never heard of hospitals not giving babies to their mother's based on the baby's skin color. Most black and hispanic babies are born lighter than they will eventually be. Also, great care is taken to put identifying bracelets on mom's and babies, and to keep them together. your baby shouldn't leave your room until it has a bracelet on that says it's yours.

From my own experience delivering babies, even if the mother is bi-racial and the dad is white, the baby's genitals are much darker than they are on white babies. Dark colored scrotum is very obvious on boys, and slightly darker labia is noticable, although not as much, on girls.

thats not true if the baby came out white they know its from you. but since you have a bit of darkness in you and your hubby is white , dark overpowers white
