You dont realize that the pervs out there can just pretend to be kids thus join the kids group. Thats how the FBI catches the pervs by pretending to be a kid and "entrap" them. It's the parents responsibility to educate the children about going to certain sites and interacting, giving out information, etc. Yahoo, Myspace and all these other sites can do everything required of them such as setting up groups for different ages, but in the end only the educated user will know when not to converse with another and in what manner to interact with others. They should have a banner alert but then again half of the stuff posted is ignored which bring us back to the family where the kids can be taught. If you can teach the parents and get the parents to teach their children, that will be a major step.

With all the media hype going on about myspace, livejournal, and all that stuff, you'd think teenagers would figure out that it's really stupid to post where they live and work on the Internet. If they're stupid enough to post: "13 year old virgin hon n' horny,' or whatever, then it's their own fault whatever happens to them. Sure, the guys who actually respond to those girls are twisted, but the girls brought it upon themselves.
I guess the only way to get people to be smarter on the Internet is to let them know that they are not immortal. It could happen to them, no matter what they might think. Teenagers (myself included, to an extent) think that they're the center of the universe and that no one can touch them. That is not true. When the teenagers of today get that message throught their skulls is when they'll start protecting themselves on the Internet.

I just saw a news show about the young sixteen year old who was going to the middle east to meet a man. They said as long as kids lie about their age there is nothing that can be done.
Maybe, just maybe all the sites should be more rigid or be shut down to protect the children if there is no other way to monitor and protect them.
I agree with you completely and worry about the things they are saying, reading, and doing.

What you're saying is correct. I’m 20 years old by the way. The only problem is that it’s impossible to track people’s ages on the internet. I also hate it when I hear of minors who get into all sorts of problems b/c they get into the wrong places. It’s definitely their fault mainly because the sites display a large, clear message “DON’T ENTER IF YOU ARE UNDER 18." If any minors choose to click "enter" anyway, it’s definitely their problem. The parents may be a large part of this issue, but I don’t think they can monitor every second of their kid's internet use.

Tell Dr. Phil about it... he'll put it on his show, then him and Oprah will do some sort of special edition or whatever. Then the wheels will be in motion to bring yahoo down forever. I'm joking. It's not your responsibility to worry about them. You have better things to do. Leave it to their parents... Besides, I don't remember ever having a 13 year old every ask me if i wanna chat... only 10 year olds.

I think that you are making a false presumption. I'm 12, but I don't go around asking for 'hotties' to chat with me, actually I'm usually the ones telling people like that to stop.

Kids often have a false sense of invinsibility, which means that they think that internet predators only attack other people, and never themselves. The only way to stop this is to get parents to supervise their kids more. When adults tell younger people these things, they just think they're stupid and paranoid.

Those are mostly the 45 year old men looking for 13 year olds. I doubt if too many 13 year olds would not know that.

The thing about kids is they don't know about the real world around them and wouldn't think that a sicko 45 yr old is trying to hook up with them.
