That depends on the engagement ring. Is the diamond flawless? What size diamond; how many carat stone? What metal is the setting; white/yellow gold, platinum? What about the jewelrer? Is he well known? Is the jewelry shop where you purchased it a "costly" shop? All those factors come into play. But, I must say, unless the diamond is very small in size, on the average, a good engagement ring WILL run you between two thousand and seven thousand. So you fall in the bracket....if your stone isn't a small one.

Traditionally they say the ring should cost two months worth of salary. But it all depends on the couple my ring was only a under 200 dollars. No it isn't the biggest diamond or anything but the fact that my husband and I chose it together and he told me that he would buy the biggest diamond in the world if it made me happy. We didn't have much starting out and I'm not a jewelery person so that small ring was fine and the thought and love behind it made me the happiest.

WOW!!! Mine is a anniversary ring with the three stones set in platinum. We looked for a long time to find a diamond without flaws. When we did and I loved it, he went back the next day to get it. It was on sale for about 1900. I think that unless you're Donald Trump, 4K for a ring is an awful lot.

You get what you pay for. So I'm sure you got a very nice diamond in your ring I kow I did.Doesn't matter how much you paid as long as you love it then that's great. My fiance and I are getting married in a week and we spent almost $5,000.00. It's beautiful I love it and fits my style perfectly. It also came with many benefits like lifetime warranty, replacement for the diamonds if they are ever loss... We had the money to do so as well. I would never spend that much if it was going to make things very stressful financially. Congrats!!

I agree with most of these answers - I wouldn't have paid that much. But if you like it, you can afford it - go for it! And good for you, not everybody gets to do that.

When we went "ring-shopping" I picked out several rings that I liked, then settled on the one I wanted. It just so happened that it was the least expensive one. Seven years later, I still have no idea what it cost. That's all he would tell me. While it's priceless to me, it's not worth a dime cuz I have no intention of selling it!

Good luck to you and your fiance.

OMG yes i believe so! I think too much money is spent on jewlery in the world anyway. My ring was his mothers wedding ring so it didn't cost a dime but it is worth so much. I do not own any kind of diamonds or gold and would like to keep it that way. I believe that the money spent on something like that could be put to so much better use. but that is my opinion. hope all is well with your wedding, congrats n good luck in life!

When I proposed to my now wife, I was kinda poor, so I had to make it a modest ring. She was gracious and sweet about it, which helped a lot at the time. With time, I became more succesful and could finally afford a new ring for her, so I bought the best I could pay for her and she still liked the first one better.
What I mean is that its always the thought that counts. If your fiancee just cares about the price tag, there is something wrong in there.

Can you afford it? Then you didn't spend too much. Are you going broke to pay for it? Then you spent too much. No one should be sitting here berating or insulting you for spending X amount of dollars on your ring if you can afford it. It's *your* choice. Don't let jealous people who couldn't spend that much on a ring make you feel stupid.

it's not about the ring, it's about how u feel about each other. people think, the bigger the ring, the more he loves me. not true. my ring only cost about 600. it's beautiful and original and i love it. i'd return the ring, get a more reasonable one, and spend the money on your reception or dress.
