Never spank a dog.
I have a rescued dog who was abused.
She is 14 years old and we still have not been able to housetrain her.
She will NOT go in front of people, period, outside, inside.. on a leash, anywhere. Only when people are gone for a long period of time, or asleep.
This is because she was taught that when someone sees her potty or poop in the house, she is beaten.
That is all she knows. If poop is on the floor she is in trouble.
She has NO CLUE that she is in trouble because she did it in the wrong place, or even that she is in trouble because it came out of her.
Beat a dog for accidents and you could put doodie on the floor that didn't even belong to her, only to see her run and cower under a table.
Never take an animal into your home without reading up on how to take care of one first.
I've been foster mommy for far too many abused and neglected dogs in my lifetime.

keep it in a crate when you can't watch him and take him outside a half hour after eating,as soon as it wakes up no matter how long or short the sleep was and give lots of praise when it goes where it's supposed to,the best way is to take it to the same spot each time outside for 2 reasons it will have the smell from the last potty trip and go again in the spot, and also it will go in that area all the time and makes your clean up easier if you don't have to hunt all over the yard for the poop.crate training does work best and it's not cruel by any means.good luck :)

Go buy a book about puppies. It will help a lot.
You need to let them out to pee and poop after every meal and then about every 2 hours. Spanking and sticking their nose in it won't work. When they have an "accident" immediately put them outside.
They will make a few mistakes and it will take time, but treat them with kindness and they will catch on pretty quick and get better and better at it.

You've done the wrong methods. Do not do negative reinforcement, that will only give you a timid dog. If you see him prepare to go to the bathroom, put him outdoors. Give him outdoor time every hour, and praise him when he does his duty outdoors. At nighttime, unless you are willing to wake up constantly to let him outdoors, have a crate prepared with potty pads. Same for when you are not home. Soon he will figure it all out.
Like you said.......he's just a puppy.

DON"T SPANK HIM!! That's cruel and abusive and just makes them aggressive and wanting to bite people. And don't put their nose in it, that teaches them to eat their own feces and I guarantee you they will. Dogs are known for doing that. Take him out every 15 minutes until he gets used to going outside. If you need to discipline him, use a rolled up newspaper and swat him on the snout. Or fill an empty pop can with pennies and tape up the opening. If you throw it near him, it scares him.

he eats it because he wants to please you and knows you are mad but he HAS to poop and does not understand. You need to hold him and take him out and then he will pee and poop outside and can go inside...if you feed him and then take him out, he will also poop outside. you could try putting a puppy training pad where he poops and then it will not dirty your home. soon he will want to go on it and if he notices you are not mad at him for going there, he will want to go only there.
put some hot pepper on the poop and he will not eat it again. the only hard thing about this is that you must let the poop on the floor to tempt him after you put pepper on it...
I trained my dog without trying because I held him all the time and he could not go..then I put him out in the grass and waited for him to go before we went in the house and it was easy.

What always worked 4 me was crate training my 2 dogs that way you can put them on a schedule. The way it works is dogs dont like to poop or urinate in their own living space so they hold themselves until their able to go out.

You should keep a schedule of when he has to pee or poop so you can take him outside and then he'll get used to that and use it outside.
