No, everybody has to start somewhere. I just started riding my bike and I have no stamina, but I am told that it will come with time. Tell him not to give up.

Well, most children at an age like his shouldn't be worried about his weight. They will grow upward, in most cases. There's a lot of people I know who were "chubby" at his age, but grew up skinny and tall and healthy by the time they were 16 or 18. I wouldn't be worried, but if he's very worried and embarassed about it, why don't you let him join a sports team? It would be a bit awkward if he just ran around the park... or you could play any sort of sports with him. He needs to have fun while losing weight. It'll encourage him to do it often, because just running around the park all day is not fun. He'll stop becuase he's discouraged, as his weight won't be coming out fast. Becuase it's summer time, try swimming, too. Any sort of sports will be fun. Running, such as doing a race, is great once in awhile, but if youre goign to lose weight, plan on something fun.

He shouldn't be embarrassed. He will be, because he is 13.
Running is something that you build up to. If he can't make it the first time around, that's fine. Tell him to slow down, and go as far as he can. Each time, go a little further. It's OK to take walk breaks.
Before he knows it, he will be running with everyone in that park, and giving advice to the chubby kids.

If he is scared he will be embarassed by running, then maybe you could remind him that long distance running is a competitive sport and there is a lot of money to be made from marathons. If people poke fun at him he could tell them he is training to do a mini marathon or something.
Also it might be a good idea to see if he wants to play a sport. With soccer (football) being the height of cool at the moment, it might be a good time to get him involved in that.
Be encouraging and maybe get out there and so some exercise with him so he feels more comfortable.

Why not have him start out walking? Why should he be embarassed - only a total loser makes fun of an overweight person who is trying to get healthy! You and your son are on the right path - good luck!!

Sure. He should go outside regularly and play. If he's interested in sports perhaps getting involved in a sport would help him to lose the weight.

cardio vascular is the best thing for him, so let him go out and play, anything to keep his heart rate up. Also as his parent you should try cooking healthier meals, don't keep snacks or soda in the house just to help him out without having to hurt feelings. if it is good for one, it is good for all.

There is no reason for him to be emberassed at all. Please support him in any way you can. Next to giving him the opportunity to exercise, you should also provide him with healthy and nutritous food. He is developing his lifelong eating habits while under your care, so please set him up for success :)
