Why do Christians insist on converting the whole world? Haven't they read the part in the New Testiment where a gentile woman came to him and he rejected her because she wasn't Jewish?

To try to convert everyone makes them feel as though there is some validity to thier beliefs...if they tried to accept that other people just aren't gonna believe what they do then it leaves room for them to speculate whether or not thier religion is the right one. But by trying to convert everyone it allows you to keep the mindset that your religion is the one supreme religion without any doubt...I personally think its crazy and Selfish to think that your religion has the right answers especially when you follow a religion created by man.

I think they want to convert the whole world because they see the mess that the world is in. They also know that the solution out of this mess would be found no where else except in viewing things differently. You don't go to school to be different ~ to see the world different. You become a new creature by being in Christ, and those in Christ don't see as those in the world see.

They have also seen what joy it is to be with the savior and what relief is there to have your sins taken away. So they want to share this with the whole world.

What joy will be here on earth, if the whole world was converted. It is beyond comprehension.

Concerning the woman who wasn't jewish ~ the LORD did not utterly reject her. Jesus replied that "It is not good to take the bread that belongs to the little children and give it to dogs". I don't see any rejection in that ~ may be there is. The woman's reply was "Even the dogs do eat crumbs under the table".
This reply showed that even though she was not jewish by descent(by clan), she was jewish by faith. For not everyone who is of the seed of Abraham is a jew ~ but those of faith.

So the woman was rewarded for her faith, even the LORD admitting the he never seen such faith even in Israel ~ "Let it be done as you desired" was the Lord's reply.

Hope you are helped by this.

You don't seem to like christians. You will come along~christians are good people you can find around, they are the coolest. Most people hate christians because they don't the same things they do. Some hate them because they do the same things they do ~ yet still call themselves christians. So whatever they do, they will still be hated. Christians will always be hated, and they are aware of that. The Lord on his departure after he had risen from the dead and gave instructions to the disciples, did say "In the world you'll have tribulation, but be of good cheer I have overcome the world"

So my friend you can be sure, christians are well equipped. I don't mean you hate them ~ those that do don't read this far!!

Christians want to convert the world because Jesus said that they are ministers of reconciliation, renciling the world to God through Christ. A Christian's whole purpose is like Christ's--to save as many as possible while here on earth. Not as a means to earn salvation, but as a purpose for life and out of gratitude for their own salvation and to share the good things that God has to offer. Refer to Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus had not died when he spoke to the gentile woman and thus his ministry to the gentiles had not begun--until Acts 10 when the first gentile convert becomes a Christian. Cornelius was his name.

What Bible are you reading? Jesus never rejected receiving anybody. The Apostle Paul goes into excruciating detail in most of his letters on how Jesus died for the gentile and for the Jew, and how all Christian brothers are to get along.

To answer the first part of your question, we Christians and not trying to convert the world to practice our rituals (granted some Christians do this and I believe they are wrong for doing so). The true way of Christ is to show others the truth of redemption in Christ by showing them love. Any other method is not the way Jesus instructed and while it might have a pure heart behind it, the head needs to wake up. We try and reach every soul because regardless of what people believe and want to believe, heaven and hell are a very solid reality. You're either going to one or the other. And its Christian compassion for the common man, the fool, the sinner to save him from an eternity in hell. But I do not believe someone should try to force people to believe. It must be their own choice, made in their hearts. And they have a right not to believe, God gave man free will, and it is no man's right to try and take that away from another man, even if he is choosing hell.

WOW, such limited understanding. William r gave you a good answer. Some stories are analogies. You must study to understand them. Jesus wasn't refusing the woman because she wasn't a Jew. He was making it clear that He came to the Jew first, the Gentile second. His intent was for the Jew to do the work, when they did not accept Him, he turned to the Gentile. However, His offer had to be first and foremost to the Jew.

Also some one else mentioned the Great Commission, to go and make disciples of all nations. We were told to do this in love. Some Christians lose them by telling people they are going to hell to quickly. The goal is to breathe into souls the desire to want God and the desire to LIVE FOREVER with Him.

Finally, our God says if they won't listen, brush off your sandals and move on. He didn't tell us to kill them if they don't accept. We don't need to. They are already dead. We are trying to show them where the water is, where the light is, where HE is.
GOD BLESS

Honey, true Christians do not want to convert the whole world. Read Matthew 25:31-33. We want to do the work with Jesus of finding His Sheep...the separating work. Jesus said His sheep would here is voice. Not all will enter the Kingdom of God. He is now putting His sheep on His right and the goats on His left..getting ready for His return. In addition, Jesus turned to the Gentiles because the Jews rejected Him. Jesus rejects no one who comes to Him with a sincere heart....NO ONE, not even you.

Christians want everyone to know about the hope they could have in Jesus. I'm not sure which story you're referring to when Jesus rejected the woman because she wasn't Jewish. There is a story where He confronts a gentile adulterous, but He does not reject her. The reason that Jesus didn't 'reject' the woman caught in adultery, is 2-fold. First, he used the opportunity to show that, to him, everyone is the same. All have sinned and need Jesus' forgiveness. Before the woman leaves, Jesus tells her "Go and sin no more," thus not condoning her sin (of adultery or unbelief) but showing her grace and forgiveness. Second, Jesus does not reject anyone, he desperately wants all people to know him. Further, before Jesus leaves the earth, he tells all believers to "go and make disciples of all nations", meaning, show them how to follow Christ. I wish deeply that all people on earth would hear about the hope that is in Jesus Christ.

What are you talking about? Jesus died in order to open the kingdom of heaven to Jews and Gentiles. Also, we are not trying to convert the entire world but we were given the great commission: Go and make disciples of the world.

Matthew 15:21-28 has the account of the Phoenician woman who had the demonized daughter. Jesus apostles said,"Send her away because she keeps crying out to us!"
Jesus did Not send her away, instead he tested her faith with a serious of questions and comments, She answered with great faith and in verse 28 Jesus said," Oh woman, great is your faith; let it happen to you as you wish." And her daughter was healed from that day on. As far as the bible goes, God is not partial,
Acts:10:34, At this time Peter opened his mouth and said:" For a certainty I perceive that God is not partial, 35 but in every nation, the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him." It is the duty for all Christians to spread the message that God is not partial and wants all Humans to get to Know Him through his Son Jesus, and with that form a love that will help them to imitate His Love! P.S. Real Christians there for would not kill each other or others in war. Never would they justify any killing of another human for any reason, instead they would put faith in Jesus who could heal the sick and raise the dead to undo the mess and restore the Earth to perfection in due time.
Also, a real Christian does not give Attitude with their answer!
The Apostle Paul became all things for the salvation of all people!

Uh, yeah, and we read Matthew 28:19 which says, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit..."

In the scripture you referenced, Jesus did grant the woman's wish:

Then Jesus said to her, "O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish." And her daughter was healed at once.

The Bible commands us to believe Jesus is THE way, the truth and the life. Man cometh to the Father but through Jesus. Believing that, why wouldn't we try to convert others?

The Christ of God was sent to the PEOPLE of God, the Hebrews, not to the Gentiles. That is why Jesus at first refused her. As for converting the whole world? That is the commission of Christ, 'to preach the gospel unto all of the world, to every nation, dialect, person, &c.'
