You would most likely have to legally adopt the child which would mean your niece giving up parental rights.

Nobody will let you sign the birth cert. If your niece wants to give you the baby, you can legally adopt it. You can also raise it unofficially & get guardianship (should not cost you anything) but she can take back her child anytime. Contact the appropriate agency for your state. If you don't know who to call, a local foster care agency may be able to help you.

She will have to go to the family court and file for termination of parental rights, it will be handled like an adoption for the most part.
She will sign you over as legal parent of the child, and you will sign papers that agree with that. You will probably have to let the state in to look at you home, give them some financial records and other proof of your ability to care for a child.
Iam pretty sure thats how it works. Check with a lawyer to know for sure, one will be invaluable to you in this situation anyway.

Talk to her and set up a game plan, but word of advice, if you dont legally adopt she will want the child back and unless there are some great risks the court will grant her guardianship, be prepared for a battle, and tell your neice to go on birth controle or friggen strap it up

You could do an open adoption. You just have to go to the courts or get a lawyer so that they can make out the adoption papers OR you could ask them about just putting your name on the birth cirtificate.

that is her decision NOT yours!!!! I dont think you can go and just sign the birth certificate I am sure that there is a legal adoption procedure you have to follow.

You have to go through a legal adoption, or she can just give you legal custody as a guardian and she can stay as the mother.

now by reading this question are you saying shes willing to give you the baby? if so then it will be easier and you will have to go get a lawyer , if your fighting her for her baby it will be hard and its wrong of you if your doing that.
