I've tried booting from a .iso boot file with a CD on a blank laptop. I tried using SUSE Linux. It gives me an invalid disc error!

The whole .iso messed me up. I got the recorder and it is working.

Then you haven't correctly burned the iso image to the disc. When you create a disc from an iso, you need to open the iso image with the software, not just burn it on to a blank cd (for example, the correct option may be 'create disc from image').

I'm a computer specialist. I've delt with LINUX and I hate it with a passion! If your used to working with a "Windows" based operating system, LINUX will drive you absolutely CRAZY! If that disc was formatted from a "Windows" enviroment, you will have problems with it in LINUX. Although that isn't the case in some instances like programs that are compatable for a "Windows" based operating system unless the packaging tells you specificly that all files were completely designed for "Windows". It's always like that for Crap'ntrash computers. The packaging alway says that! They always say "This program is designed for MacIntosh computers"

I hope I've helped you with your problem. Good luck!

I'd recommend knoppix for now, at least until you've got everything partitioned correctly and you're a bit more confident in what you're doing. Knoppix is the only one I can get to run from a disk without any problems. Then again, I only use it at home when Windows blows up.

Yes, that is the bottom line. LINUX is difficult to maintain. Good backups are always necessary.
