The federal government requires each credit bureau to provide every citizen over the age of 18 with a free credit report; however, the free credit report may not include your credit score. So, the bureaus end up charging you if you also want to see your credit score. You can find more information at the source listed below, or you can contact www.annualcreditreport.com online, by phone at (877) 322-8228
or you can request a report by mail at Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

Here's the URL: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
The government requires the 3 credit bureaus to provide free credit reports, one per year -- don't get all 3 at once as they all have essentially the same info -- get 1 from each of the credit bureaus (Equifax, Experio, etc) every 4 months -- by the way although frequent checks to your credit history canbring down your score, this type of free checking does not affect your score.

If you have an American Express card of any kind, call them. They offer a free credit report once a year.
If you don't have Am.Ex. - yes there are free reports available, I did it a while ago but forget the site name. You should be able to find it with a little searching.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe you can get a free credit report from Transunion, Experian and Equifax if you have been denied credit. They will ask you a bunch of questions to verify your identity.

http://www.annualcreditreport.com Get all reports. They are usually identical, but you would be surprised at the possible discrepencies between agencies. I did. In one year, they had me living at different addresses I've never known, yada yada yada. And a bill that wasn't mine. And this of course effects many things in your life now-adays. Including your freaking auto insurance premium!!! Ticks me off. Grrr.
