I know it is going to attract a lot of attention ~ that is not my intention.
We read in the Bible that no one can see God and live. Infact these words are spoken by God himself to Moses, when moses asked to see his glory. The LORD God answered, "you shall see my back, but not my face, for no man can see me and live". Yet, a little further on we read that Aron and Mirriam found fault with Moses since he had married an Ethiopian woman. They said "has God trully spoken only through Moses, has he not spoken through us also". And God heard it. God called the three(Moses, Aron and Miriam) to the tarbanacle of the meeting. Then he called Miriam and Aron, and they went forward. The LORD, said: "Now listen to my words. If there is any prophet among you, I speak to him in a vision. I reveal myself to him in a dream. But not so with my servant moses. He is faithful in all my house. I speak with him face to face, even plainly, not in dark sayings. He even sees the form of God".
So did he?

Moses did not "see" God. Moses only heard the voice of God and saw the writing placed onto the Gold tablets which are the Ten Cammandments. However, contrary to some beleafs, the Ten Commandments are not the "only" commandments. There are others with the first two and critically important being 1. To love thy God with all thy heart, mind, might and soul. 2. To love thy neighbor like thyself. Now, neighbor does not mean your next door neighbors, the folks down the block, or those in your little society or circle of associates, friends and family. While these people are part of the "nieghbor" concept, it really means all who share this existance with us. We are to love all in the world as we would love ourselves. Sadly, many are very confused on what God wants and what He does not want. This is where so much greif and pain starts. The one truth I know above all others is that God is LOVE. God is ACCEPTANCE. God is FORGIVENESS. God is the only JUDGE. We are asked to try, just try, put forth a bit, even a smidgen of effort to be like God who as the Son is Jesus the Christ. The Holy Spirit is with each of us every day to provide guidance, comfort, and so much more. We are saved through the Grace of God and nothing else.
God has to speak in language we can have a hope of understanding. When scripture says "I will speak with him face to face, even plainly, not in dark sayings", he is simply saying he is communicating in real time, in real space, but with his voice not his form there for Moses to see. No man can look upon God here in this plane and continue to live. We would die of a heart attack. It is that simple. We are small beings, incapable of comphrending the wonderfulness of God, of seeing Him and not going to be with him immediantly. If I saw God right now, today, I would not ever wish to stay here. I would wish to go with him right away. He is so magnificant, so loving, so kind, there simply are not word which can ever describe God!!!! I know I would not want to stay here if I were to have a chance to view God. I would beg Him to take me home with him.
Listen, the scriptures are questionable at best. God does not intend to provide us with any tangable proof of His existance. This goes against everything we are here for. The scriptures are a guidline, translated by human man, taken apart by man and church and then repiled into what we have today. We must have the intelligence to understand how the scriptures were created, and to use them with wisdom, with knowlege there can not be any solid proof of God and what we have in the scriptures is only a guide not the written words of God Himself. We do not have any direct writings by God, either from Him as the Father or as the Son. Jesus was not here to institute a church. He was here for two reasons. One was to set the record straight on how far from the path we had gotten, the other was to be a sacfifice for the world's sins so we would have a way home. That is all. That is enough for me.

Hi,
Only Moses could answer the question. Everything that anyone else would say would only be hearsay. Even if Moses said he did how could anyone be sure? If he talks to you how will you be sure?
If he talks to you at least you will know for sure.
An interesting book to read would be-

Yes, he did see the back of God. When God said that he spoke 'face to face' with Moses, He meant directly to him, and like He said 'not through dreams and dark sayings'. God rarely speaks directly to anyone, that takes a special person or circumstance.

The bible was translated many times from Hebrew to Greek to Latin, To Old English. You should not take the bible so literal. In the version you are reading, they used the wrong words. It is meant that God speaks to Moses personally because he has that much faith in him.

There is a difference between SEEING G-d's face, and SPEAKING face-to-face. One is vision, one is hearing.
Moses heard G-d plainly, and saw His form (His "back' and "hand"), but did not SEE His face. Moses was regularly in G-d's presence, speaking directly to Him... "face to face" = plain and clear speech in that context.
As a teacher, I can speak face-to-face with a kid, and that child will never make eye contact (many of my students are Hispanic/Mexican, and in their culture it is rude to make eye contact with authority). We speak face-to-face, but the kid isn't "seeing" my face.
It makes perfect sense to me that Moses could speak face-to-face with G-d and never look at G-d's Face.

Some people wouldn't believe the truth if it knocked them upside the head. Of course it's true. If it weren't, it wouldn't be in the Holy Bible.
