honestly i feel very uncomfortable when i cross someone that is homeless, however i do donate to shelter and food banks, so i feel that i do my share, there is always the option for them to go to a shelter, and get back on their feet

I read their signs which usually say 'Will work for food' or 'Help, I need food for my kids' or 'Veteran needing assistance' Now I know for a fact that people down on their luck can get welfare and foodstamps for the kids, and if someone will 'work' for their food the best place for them to work is a restaurant. Veterans I know for a fact can get a check so it doesn't bother me too much except when someone goes out and gets dramatic and brings their kids and dog to the corner to beg with them. I once saw a sign that said 'Why lie? I just need a beer' I gave the guy a dollar.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. I have heard that a lot of "homeless" people really aren't. It's just a thing they use to get money. Some homeless are truely homeless, but I have no idea how to tell which is which. Even if a person is homeless, does giving him/her money actually help get them off the street?

I have heard that the best thing to do is help support the shelters and other agencies that deal with the homeless. At least you know you aren't just supporting a drug habit.

I don't do anythng because I know that the ones that beg around my house are crackheads. I do donate clothes to homeless shelters though.

Been there and done that so I know for a fact you treat them like any other human being. Help if you can or point them in the right direction. That's not hard to do is it?

I fell like, that person had a future once and something went terribly wrong and they don't have anyone to turn to because everybody's given up on them and i know this is probaly too much, but i wonder how fast does it go wrong.

If there's a fast-food restaurant nearby I'll usually offer to bring them something - food, beverage, whatever. I don't do money but I do do sandwiches for people who are genuinely hungry.

Don't give them money as they're only likely to spend it on booze or drugs. If you were to give them anything give them food! My sister gives some tramp a banananananana

It depends... I rarely offer any money. What I usually do is think how they got that way... mental illness, drug and/or alcohol addiction, choice of lifestyle. Then ... I count my blessings and wish them luck and peace.

I ask them for some change....I do it before they can ask me...it usually takes em by surprise and keeps me from getting harrassed.
