grit or bite down on your teeth just as the shot is taken, this makes your eyes open briefly enough to stop the action. It works for me!!!

The best way to stop you from closing your eyes when some one takes a picture is to not look at the camera, instead look passed the camera, look over the person's shoulder who is taking the picture or look over the top or side of the camera you are looking at. Many people have this problem and it is because like a rabbit, when you shine a bright light into its eyes it will stand still in the light, the same can be applied to people they see a camera pointing at them and they freeze and look directly at the camera or sometimes flash and wait to blink just as the person taking the photo says smile.

There are a multitude of ways to help you with this.
People swear by the 'lookin directly above the camera' method which seems to work, but it shows in the final picture that you weren't looking at the camera even though it looks as though you are supose to be.
The best is for a photographer to talk to you and work on getting you to relax. Then, pop the shot just after the blink.
Too many photographers have the subject close their eyes then get the photograph just when they open them. The result looks like a deer caught in the headlight.

Just look above the camera. It helps you to keep your eyes open and it makes you look more alert. The big problem is that you're thinking about the flash. My dad does this, so we tell jokes to get his mind off of it. THEN we take the pic when he's in the middle of a genuine smile.
Another trick, take pics where it's bright enough to not need a flash.

don't look at the flash and don't even be thinking about it. Flashes aren't as blinding as they used to be in the old days. I remember as a kid my mom's flash camera would have me seeing stars for an hour afterward!
These days the flash - if you aren't looking right at it, isn't as blinding so its okay to keep your eyes open.
BTW, sunny days outside, no flash is needed so you shouldn't have your eyes closed at that time.

Have the person count to four before shooting the picture. Blink on two and when the person takes the picture your eyes will be open again after the blink, no more closed eyes.

Why do you always have to have your eyes open? Is that the only proof that it's you that's in the photo?
