Both of my toddlers feel more comfortable in their diapers. They both know when they go and even asked to be changed sometimes. However, it seems that they are not interested ina toilet training schedule at all. They are resistive to sitting on the toliet.

potty training can be difficult...

first make sure they are not afraid of the potty...let them go in there and flush it just to hear it...make sure they have a stool and potty seat if needed to make sure they feel safe getting up to sit on it. and find a word for them to use like potty or pee so they can verbalize it.
make sure that if they are not apprehensive of the bathroom itself; that they have a light on and you go with them to the potty.
try a potty book (avail at walmart) it will make sitting on the potty more fun if they can do something there.

put them on the potty why you know they will go...ie right away in the morning or after lunch...get to know their schedules. sit with them and tell them just to try to "squeeze or push"...tell them to sit for a few minutes and just relax so they can go; stay with them though if they are scared but if they want privacy hide right outside so you can ask if they have gone.

make it fun when they try to go potty; a song to sing hands like this is the way we wash our hands...

if comfortable with it little boys can watch daddy pee and try to aim for a cheerio or pc of tp. and girls can see mommy sit on the toilet too.

make a decision how boys are going to pee...some are comfortable standing some sit; and some sit facing the back of the toilet b/c it is easier....

make it exciting to get a reward like a pc of candy or sticker when they do use the toilet. and make sure you praise them...good job; you are such a big kid...making them feel big is a great incentive!

and eventhough it makes for more cleaning for you...use undies...in real thick cotton undies they actually feel when they pee. and most do not like sitting in wet clothes.

If they do have an accident put them on the potty while you are changing them...tell them they need to remember to pee on the potty b/c they get wet, smell bad etc; but do not disciplin them for it...and if it is a poopy accident; dump the poop in the toilet and let them flush it and remind them poop only goes down the potty, not in the undies.

And this is what totally worked for us; our son was sooo ready to use the potty but wouldnt so finally one day we told him if he went all day on the potty instead of just the white thick undies he could go to the store with daddy (hes a boy; girls can go w/mommy) to pick out special cartoon undies like blues clues. It was amazing that we had no accidents that day and only like 4 after that period!

First, you'll need two toilets - it's easier to train them as a "team" than singly. This is how the day-cares do it.

Also, get rid of the diapers and get pull-ups. They feel the wet and are more uncomfortable in them, so that's incentive to use the toilet.

You should be able to recognize a schedule, more or less. For example, first thing when they wake up, about five or ten minutes after a meal, etc. Put them on their toilets at these times and stay with them until they go. Praise them for using the potty and discuss the possibility of getting some "big kid" drawers with their favorite characters on them when they quit going in the diapers.

Last resort (my sister used this one) - put them in daycare for a couple of weeks and let them train them. Doesn't take long as the other kids help facilitate the training.

Your not alone. My daughter was much quicker to potty train than my current 3 yr old son. He is good with # 1 but # 2 is a battle. # 1 is easy to start outside if possible. Sometimes a target is a good idea for little boys. My daughter just got sick of the wet diaper.
Good luck

You didn't say if you had boys or girls. I potty trained my little boy by letting him go outside and pee on the flowers just off the porch. He thought it was funny that he could make the flowers dance. (We live in the country). Another thing I did was put cheerioes in the stool so he could aim at them. (He doesn't aim anymore..LOL) Also, I did the dishwashing detergent in the stool so that when he went it made bubbles. I tried to make it as fun as possible for him. My sister has a potty chair that has a little light on it. When they pee, or send anything in front of the light, happy music plays. Mostly, just be patient, they'll do it when they're ready. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I actually left the potty chair right in the living room.I asked every 5mins.or so if they needed to potty. When they would sit down, everybody would get real quiet to listen if they pottied. When they did we all clapped and cheered. We had a special treat jar(candies,sm toys,etc...) only for the potty users. It always worked for us.Good Luck♥

I potty trained my kids when they were almost 2 and my mother in law said she use to rinse my husband in cold water if they wet themselves or anything else and I tried it but nothing was working either so I finally got the courage to rinse them with cold water and that got them in to the habit I know it sounds mean and cruel but hey it worked!!

you can get a poster board for each and when they go they get to put a sticker on it. Or this might seem a little cruel but my mom used to make me stay in it for awhile. Or just take them every hour or so, but I think they are old enough to know when to go...
Are they boys or girls? Cheerios works for boys.
