Hebrews 10:25 God speaks to us about the importance of Christians gathering together and sharing in the things of the Spirit.
Back in Jesus times people gathered in a house of a fellow believer, but no we can not do that anymore; so we to build churchs, Halls, ect........ to welcome more followers.
** But remember church is only one spot you can worship GOD, everyday evey moment give him glory**

The Church as defined by the American Heritage Dictionary is 'the company of all Christians regarded as a spiritual body.' Although there were Christians before the ascension of Christ, they were not regarded as a spiritual body until after the Ascension when the Apostles presided over the individual Christian communities as over a single body. They made religious decisions and judgements that affected all Christian communities and thus made them into a whole. So there was never one moment in time when it specifically began; instead it grew gradually and imperceptably. Although there were always differences between communitites, gradually their exact beliefs and ceremonies became more and more similar. They answered to the same authority and they acknowledged each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. Over time, the Church became the more concrete and unified organization we recognize today, but it only got that way through gradual evolution beginning with loosely associated, widely-spread communities.

The Jews were told to in the 3rd Commandment to "remember the sabbath day" (the 7th day of the creation story). It was to be a day of rest from daily labor...not a time to read the Sunday paper in bed). The early Christians, who called themselves "The Way" and considered themselves to be Jews followed the pattern of the Jews.
The X-tian Church, calls the Pentecost event (Acts 2) as the spiritual beginning of the church, when the Spirit came to the disciples as they were gathered together.
As the disciples went out telling others of the Christ, they established worship centers in each city. Rome being the most prominent city of the day, became one of the largest churches....

Well it depends on which church your talking about..The Edict of Milan said that the romans would no longer persecute christians allowing them to freely worship so after that is when the first christian churches began forming. Before that the only organized Christianity was illegal. But if you are talking about the thousands of other "churches" then there were many througout history. Some were used way before Christianity was ever created.

Jesus Christ called the disciples to Him. The disciples followed Jesus. He showed them his miracles and teachings then He was Crucified, but after he arose from the dead he told them to wait for the power from on high, the Holy Spirit. Acts chapter 2. Then with the power they recieved from the Holy Spirit after Jesus Ascended to heaven they went out and began to make other desciples.
Then Saul a zealuous Pharasee of the Jews Put Stephen and other devout Christians to death. He thought they were harming Jewish faith. Then Jesus Christ the resurected Saviour appeared To Saul the zealous Jewish Pharisee, and made Saul believe in Him. Then Saul Changed his name to Paul and went to all the known world of that time proclaiming that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God. Paul also performed many miracles to prove Christ's power and suffered greatly to bring the message of Christ to the world. This is all written in the book of the Acts of the Apostles. It is the story of the begining of the Christian faith.
Paul went on to write many of the letters that form the New testament. He became one of the greatest apostles and evangelists of the Christian faith. His message has been handed down to us for generations.
