I would think the diet soda is helping her lose weight if she had been drinking the regular and now changed over.
You are right, carbonated beverages to contribute to kidney stones, maybe if you suggested other drinks, or when she came over had other options available it might get her on to something else.
She knows you are concerned about her health, but she has to make the decision herself.
Maybe you can help her get started on a healthier life style, without mentioning her 'habit', ask her if she wants to start going to the gym with you. Maybe you could give up a bad habit or cut down, but don't preach, wait until she says something, you can say, well I am exercising to be healthy, so I figured why do that and then mess it up with this, so I am cutting down. Maybe she will then think about her habits and start to change.
Nagging will not do it.

My daughter (age 15) has a lot of trouble with kidney stones also. Her urologist prescribed Urocit-K, 1080 mg, 2 tabs twice per day. Her citrate is really low. She was drinking Mt Dew like crazy. Now, she drinks at least 2 litres of water per day in addition to some soda. Will power was the most important component of the reduction in soda consumption. She did not enjoy the pain of the kidney stones or the emergency room visits or the surgeries. Substitutions: sports drinks, crystal lite flavors packets for her water bottle, and lite Minute Maid juices sold in the 12 oz cans.

my dad had the same problem. To help him to forget about the soda he drank Propel. It tasts good and it is healthier than drinking a bottle of soda. She can try other flavored waters as well. She will get hooked on that and not always reach in the fridge to get a drink of Pepsi. :)

Wow, soda makes me gain weight! She's definitely wrong. I know what it's like to be addicted to soda. I really like Dasani and Aquifina with flavors added, and even though she should try to avoid too many sugary drinks, fruit juice would be much healthier. It will be hard at first, but it will get easier.

Tell her to try drinking one glass (8 oz) of water for every glass of pop she drinks. She should not quit cold turkey cause she will get a headache from hell that will last for days. Wean her off the stuff. It really do lose weight when you stop drinking soda (we call it pop around here)

Well I think you can mix the pepsi with other thing, so she can't drink it anymore. At leat she will drink it, but less quantity. Please don't use drugs.
