YOU have embarked on a discovery of amazing, creative works of genius! I'm a professional designer and fine arts painter. Been doing this for over 25 years and just like you, I'm always learning.
I'm fortunate enough to live next to the LA County Museum of Art and right now, they have an exhibit of the works of Gustav Klimt!
This guy ROCKS!! (well, he's dead now)
Another must see artist is Georgia O'Keefe....baby, this chick was a visionary ahead of her own time and OURS!
While your at it, check out the primitive ultra-cool paintings of Reverend Finster....His work is even on the cover of an REM album!
Dahli is in my humble opinion THE greatest artist the world has ever known!
Well, enjoy and learn!!

I like Frida Kahlo's work, too. Check out the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum in Chicago, IL for some very interesting modern artists and exhibitions.

Frida is one of the most intensely original woman artist ever. She managed to create a name for herself despite being overshadowed by the heavy presence and popularity of her husband Diego. Though her paintings has always been labeled as surrealist , Kahlo has infused a great amount of her own personal symbols and painted her own inner turmoils, traumas and private griefs. It came to a point when Diego got so jealous of her artworks. Frida never allowed her physical and bodily pains to stop her from doing Art but instead she used those ailments as valid themes in art which no artist has ever done before. She lived her life as intense and passionate as she paints her canvases. She is an icon of creative freedom and artistic integrity; not to mention the first few 'feminist' of her generation. The other artist which comes close is Marc Chagall whose lyrical symbolism has added a new dimension to Surrealism. Among the active and contemporary artist today , Claudio Bravo -a Chilean artist who lives in Morroco is probably one of the few artist who started with surrealism and moved on to a more personal inner world of self expression.

I actually like the work of her husband, Diego Rivera far more than Frida's paintings. If you like her, however, you should reaaally check out Remedios Varo. You will fall in love with her paintings. If you like Diego Rivera's work, you should check Rufino Tamayo, David Alfaro Siqueiros and José Clemente Orozco.
