I am using a Pillsbury cake mix. I never have any luck getting the cake out of a normal pan in one piece and my son wants to make his own birthday cake. I was wondering if this would work to create easier removal?

I'm a professionally trained commercial baker.

If you have a hard time getting cake out of a pan you don't need to use a spring-form....here's what you do.

Take some Crisco and a paper towel and liberally grease the pan....sides, bottom, corners. Then take flour and coat everywhere that you greased. Don't miss any spots or the cake will stick. Finally....when you bake the cake, make SURE that it is done. Put a toothpick into the center and make sure it comes out clean....pull it out of the oven and use a knife to go around the edges of the cake/pan so it isn't stuck at the top. Put your cooling rack on TOP of the cake pan. Hold them together and flip over together...shake the cake out of the pan. Should be good to go!

If you plan on icing the cake I suggest that you put it in the freezer first. Freezing won't hurt the cake, and it makes it a LOT easier to ice.

I'm not sure if it won't still stick or not but try this for the regular cake pans and it really does help. Grab a paper towel and smear it with Crisco or another brand of choice and rub lightly on the pan. Then spoon in some flour and shake it around til i is lightly coated the pan. Dump out the rest, and put in the cake batter. After the cake is finished cooling carefully run a butter knife around the edges and turn the cake onto a platter and decorate.

I would think so, you should still spray the pan though.
