The secret for things like pork chops and ribs is to use lower heat for a longer amount of time, that keeps the juices in and ensures that the meat is properly cooked. You could also wrap the chops in aluminum foil, to keep the steam and moisture in.

over medium coals about 5 minutes or until you see the edges start to brown. Less time for hotter coals. Why are you even bothering to bbq half inch thick pork chops? Those are a pan chop usually for breakfast. If you're grilling porkchops they should be at least 5/8 inch or better. I cut mine 1 inch thick for the grill.

First off I like to marinate them over night.
But depending on how hot your gill is will determine on how long they should be cooking on each side. Start with 2 minutes on a side then flip them over. If 2minutes seam to be too long try 1 to 1 1/2 minutes on a side. I would go with the 2 minutes a side and keep flipping them until you thing they are done. A lot of people say they should be brown in the middle, I cook them until I see a light pink center. It shouldn't take any longer then 6 to 8 minutes. But you have to keep a close eye on them.
Good luck and happy cooking.
If you would like any more help let me know.

If you wrap the chops in foil and marinate them...I'm sure on an open grill it would take around 25 to 30 min...Id check on it for individual taste.
