Over the counter won't work well, as you discovered. You must see a doctor and get a prescription. There are many different types of allergy medications and your doctor will help you pick the one best for you. I use Clarinex and it works great...but a doctor must prescribe it.

You really do need to see a doctor if your hayfever is that bad. You also need to cut down on the dust in your environment especially in your bedroom. You might also try Nasalcrom. It is a preventative so it will take up to a week for it to work well so be sure to give it a long enough try. Since you are ok at night but have trouble during the day there might be something in your daytime environment that is causing all your trouble. You might try keeping a diary of what you eat and what you are around to give you some clues.

I even have the comparable subject and alter into suffering badly till final year when I observed the Singulair commercial that mentioned those with allergies ought to take this drugs. before it have been in user-friendly terms for allergies. I talked my well being care expert into giving me a prescription for this as my different hypersensitive reaction prescription replace into no longer doing me any sturdy. I had a great turn around. Now i haven't any problems with my allergies. Ask your well being care expert to offer you a prescription so which you will get some alleviation. i comprehend precisely what you propose by making use of using me mad.

If you haven't tried Nasaleze already then give it a try. Its some sort of natual vegetable powder, and you sniff a bit up each nostril. (Don't oversniff as it doesn't taste too nice...! XD) What it does is make more mucus - more mucus=less pollen coming into contact or reaching your lungs. And apparently it's 100% natural ingredients.
Benadryl, Zirtek and Clarityn don't work that well with me, so I was desperate! Nasaleze definitely reduces my sneezing. I get a little bit of itchy eye but not bad, and no sore throat or drowsiness!
I bought a small bottle for about £6 at Boots.
Good luck with finding something that works!

Make sure your a/c filters are cleaned 3 or 4 times a week, don't keep more than 1 pet in the house, get rid of cobwebs and such, hoover daily and clean your hoover apparatus, wear a paint mask if you work out in the yard mowing and such, and then use the over the counter meds as directed. Good luck.

Overdose yourself on pollen. The next sunny day, go and sit in the biggest field of flowers that you can. You're eyes and nose will run like crazy, you'll sneeze every two seconds and your eyes will sting. But it will build up your immune system to the pollen and you'll be 10 times better the next day.

You might try the herbs nettles and/or eyebright. Both are fairly effective for itchy, watery eyes and sinus congestion. I have hayfever and have stayed away from OTCs and prescriptions for years and have depended on the herbs. No side effects and generally effective. They are available in most drug stores, health food stores, and even grocery stores. Good luck.

Try going to an ear, nose, and throat doctor that specializes in allergies. They often give free samples if you ask and if you can't afford this stuff there are often plans that can help you.
It's time to call in the professionals. Also try to figure out what it is that is causing your allergies. For me it is grass pollen and cats. If there is a way to avoid the allergen that would definitely help.

stay away from fields & grass. Lay down in some cool indoor place to end sneezing fit. Or jump into pool/river, or just rinse the nose with water (can add a bit of soda or salt to it).
If nothing helps, just breathe through the dust mask - they sell them in pharmacies and hardware store, or you could just fit a bandana over your face (cowbow style)

For permanent relief try hyposensibilization. This is a therapy where your doctor gives you an injection of concentrated pollen once a week and that over three years. Your body slowly learns to not fight it anymore and in most cases the allergical reactions subside. I did it and it has helped me a lot.
