Not sure what you have tried, but most children will potty train quite easily once they are ready. It is not uncommon for 2.5 yr olds to not be potty trained, especially boys. If you need to potty train him now for a special reason (i.e. he will be going off to preschool soon, and they require him to be potty trained) then you might want to speak with your pediatrician about ways that will be effective for him.

I know this isn't very helpful at this point, but you haven't provided much information on what has already been attempted.

my son will be three in a month he is still not potty trained. he will go on his potty chair. but only if he wants to. commend him when he does it for the first time and don't forget to call everyone (or pretend) to let them know he went potty like a big boy. what has been working it put a bigger that usual shirt on him and when he is at home let him run without a diaper, but keep it covered you don't want some one saying anything about child porn. but this works for my son. he now is at the point where he can use the big potty, but with a seat cover on it. if all else fails put a potty training chair in front of the tv with a popsiclce and have him sit there and eat his popsicle even if he doesn't go then still praise him for at least sitting there.

good luck and if you find anything else that works let me know lol!

Probably he is not ready yet. My son is almost 3 1/2 years-old, and we are in the middle of the process. He is not wearing diapers during the day, only at nights. Let me tell you....if they are not ready, you are just waisting your time, and you probably will end up doing more harm than help. Forget about potty training for a few months and then, start again and see what happens.

Good luck!!

Throw a Cheerio (cereal) in the toilet and have him try to sink it.

Or give him some more time. Sometimes boys take longer. Just start by getting him used to his own potty or the potty seat. Even if it's just "there". And then go on from there.

My husband was wonderful with it...he acted all excited and then showed him how to go "tinkle", as we say. And then shoot looks at me like "I can't believe I'm doing this".

he will let u know when he's ready, my son is also 21/2 and he just started potty training my daughter started around the same time too. They will let u know but u can help him by buying some briefs with his favorite cartoon on it but tell him he cant wear them unless he try to potty train, works good for my son, and praise him when he goes even if he just sit there and do nothing, also let him wear pullups, even when he does start he will still need the pull for bedtime, my son still use it when sleeping and he occasionally have accidents.

I know this may sound crazy but my 2 yr old boy would not use the potty chair, so I gave him an empty coffee can and now he loves to use it. I guess it was just very interesting to him. Good luck!!

Don't worry about how long it takes. Some parents think its all a race to see who's kids can do things first. Your son will do it when he is ready. I am training my son at the moment(who is the same age) and I am just letting him go at his own speed. Plenty of praise and encouragement are a must. Also, let him see others using the toilet and he will want to copy too, in no time!
Good luck!

Boys are fun! Put some cute shapes cut from paper in the toilet and suggest aiming for them! If you have a male adult who would be willing to go with him to the bathroom, that is a great help. If you have an older boy cousin or friend who could take him into the bathroom and show him how "the big kids" do things. Remember, stress free. you stress, he stresses. He will not be graduating high school in diapers. Take your time and do not scold. It will go great!

It's not that hard to do. Show him the potty. Tell him to go to it when he needs to use it. Praise him when he complies. Eventually he'll be "potty trained" People make way too much of this!
