There are a lot of answers. Like predators who will steal the eggs. The other eggs hatched and the birds left and one remains that did not hatch.

Unless you observe a nest regularly, it is often hard to tell.

whilst hens are broody and lay their eggs, they do no longer lay all of them in one sitting so the eggs will possibly no longer all hatch on a similar time. i could supply it a pair of day on the main and if something of the eggs do no longer hatch, pitch them. As for the only toddler chick that became into left lower back on the nest, i could attempt and placed it with the fowl and different 2 chicks. If the fowl ignores it, save it heat for the 1st few weeks of that is existence in a container with a warmth lamp. initiate it on some chick feed and be certain that it has various of water. it's going to be happy with out that is mom. desirable of success to you!

Sometimes the parents push out the eggs that havent survived, other times it could be a predator that has had a snack.

well usually the parent drop the eggs because the father bird is jealous the mother is spending to much time with them or they just mad at them . or maybe they hatched and the father killed it. that why when a bird lays and egg you take it away before the parent kills it. sometimes other predator mess with it and drops it or flays away with it.

more than likely something living in the tree ate it. maybe a snake or a squirrel knocked it out.
