Depends on the recipe. I learned this the hard way. A lot of stuff calling for confectioners sugar is meant to be smooth in consistency, so if you use granular sugar the food will be gritty. You might get the tase you are looking for, but not the consisency. Confectioners sugar is VERY fine, like a powder, and regular sugar is more like granules of sand. My advice? Go next door and ask to borrow some.

There is a huge difference between regular sugar and confectioners sugar. If the recipe calls for confectioners sugar, it is most probably going to used for decoration. Either way, it would not be a smart idea to use regular sugar when a recipe calls for confectioners sugar. If you have a food processor or a coffee grinder, grind the regular sugar and you should come out with confectioners sugar, depending on the type of blender/coffee grinder you have.

It depends on how you mix it. If it is blended into (creamed) butter or a fat of some sort, then yes. Just make sure to cream it well...like 5 extra minutes.
If you're not using a creaming method, then you can put the sugar thru the food processor and add a small amount of corn starch to the sugar, like 1/4 tsp per cup of sugar.
Make sure to re-measure the sugar prior to adding to the recipe! You may need more or less after processing.

You can put your regular sugar in the blender and blend it until it's very fine. Voila! Confectioners sugar.
Don't add anything else to the blender just the sugar and blend, blend, blend.

Sometimes, if you put regular sugar in the food processor, it can create powdered sugar.

You can. It will taste the same, but it probably won't look right.
