Actually, yes it does matter the color of the tequila. gold tequilas like cuervo, sauza, margaritaville et al have caramel coloring and usually only have the minimum 51% agave content. The rest is made up of sugar alcohol. Reposado's are 3-9 months in oak, anejos 9-36 months in oak. All oaking, coloring, residual flavors, and sugar alcohols will count towards a headache, but usually balance out with the flavor they add. These impurities are called cogeners. These congeners include methyl alcohol, aldehydes, histamine, tannins, iron, lead and cobalt. A pure 100% agave tequila, such as Patron, 1800, or Corazon silver (or blanco) will give less of a hangover, especially if you stick to only that and minimize sugar in any mixers and make sure to hydrate often with water or soda water throughout the night. Best bet is a high quality vodka with a diet or soda water mixer.

Tequila Hangover

Give the prize for best answer to Brooke BB. The only thing I can add to that is to take a trip to the Mexican state of Jalisco, where tequila is made, and find the moonshine tequila, called raicilla. It is distilled at 200 proof, or 100% alcohol. There are no impurities, and drinking it will give you a high that you have never known before. If you can find a Huichol Indian to put a peyote button in it, you will even get to see God. You will never go back to Jose Cuervo again. They don't even drink that stuff down in Jalisco. It's only sold to gringos.

The pure white one, almost a liduer. Sip. You will get a hangover from drinking too much of any booze. Eat while your drinking, cuts down on handovers too.

it's not the color or brand of tequila, it's how much you drink... and anything over like two or three shots in a night will give you one.
