It was at Jesus' request. John objected, saying "I am the one needing to be baptized by you, and you are coming to me?" Despite John's objections, Jesus insists: "Let it be, this time, for in that way it is suitable for us to carry out all that is righteous." Jesus was indeed sinless, so this baptism is a symbol, not of repentence of sins, but of his presenting himself to do the will of his Father. It was a public declaration of his commitment to Jehovah. (Matt 3:13-17; Luke 3:21-38; 1:34-36, 44; 2:10-14; John 1:32-34; Hebrews 10:5-9)

Baptism is not something the cleans someone from sin anyway, if baptism could cleans us from sin Jesus would not have had to sacrifice his life for us, it is symbolic to show that we are following the way of God. Modern Christians say it is a outward demonstration of our death to our flesh and a resurrection into Jesus

It was because Jesus came to set an example for us to follow :)
Baptism represents proclaiming that you love and serve God, and being baptized welcomes the Holy Spirit of God to wash you and fill you with God's power :) The dove that represented the Holy Spirit came from heaven and rested on Jesus as he rose out of the water!

Jesus was baptized to fulfill a prophecy and also to show obedience to God the Father.
The Bible says in Isaiah, a book written hundreds of years before the time of Jesus.
"A voice of one calling: "In the desert prepare the way for the LORD [a] ; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God." (Isaiah 40:3)
This was repeated in Matthew 3:3.

The baptism was made so that John the Baptist can fulfill theprophecy since he is the one making the calling here. He is the one who will provide the introduction to the Lord.
Another reason was of obedience. It was probably Jesus' first public act of obedince to the Father.
"Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, 'I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?'"
"Jesus replied, 'Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.' Then John consented." (Matthew 3:13-15)
Jesus' act of obedience to the Father will culminate in His crucifixion.

yes he was sinless but tradition had a lot to do with it and to set examples , it is written in ancient Hebrew writings that the one must be purified by water and by blood the water represents a new birth and the sacrifice was a white lamb therefor rendering Jesus to fulfill prophecy as a messiah for future ages lots has been misunderstood and misconstrued but read on and search for your self its there for u to one day understand what prophecy was meant and written for , just have an open mind and decide for yourself

He had to set the best example for us. He showed us that even though he was perfect, he was still doing everything that the Father, God, asked him to do. As it says, he showed us the way and baptism, which He was, is the gate that starts us on the way.

That is exactly what John asked Jesus. It is not very clear, but perhaps He did to set an example
